Now, this is my second Trec and my first at Level 2, and I can honestly say I've been tripping for a couple of days. There's some jumping (70cm) obstacles of course, a bridge (eek!) and a 10K forest ride with a young teenager as my partner. We're practising our jumping but I think it's doing that all alone out here that has started rattling my nerve. I hate riding in company and we will have the add canter and some banks to do. That's the worst of it.
Give me some comfort people! I'm manned the comfort section here for years!

Hi Kanga it all sounds exciting and I can totally understand wibbles creeping in as it involves your bogey of riding in company and some other fun sounding things 'banks'!. Over the months I have read your posts with huge admiration at your determination and success with your lovely boy and have to say you have been very inspirational to me and obviously to many to others. To get to this point of doing TREC is brilliant and just shows you have the tools in your tool box to deal with this new set of challenges. I'm sure youre partner will move at a pace thats suits you over the obstacles that may need a bit more thinking and breathing about. Good luck

Perfectly understandable to have the wibbles, but you only have to think back through all you and Flynn have done together to realise how far you have come - this is just one more stage on the journey.
You have learnt so much, and you and Flynn are now a true partnership - he listens to you, and trusts you. Perhaps this Le Trec will not go perfectly, but it will teach you so much more about each other, whatever happens. Just get out there and enjoy.
Very very best of luck - you know the DG'ers will all be there with you in spirit, egging you on!

Thank you Moosmum and the ever lovely MrsMills. Much appreciated. Just did some jumping... a lot of chanting 'boring boring' as he canters to them. Ended up around his ears once as he saw and sailed the placing plank. We're doing a barrel on it's side.. is that 70cm? Now, concentrating on my balance and grabbing mane and forgetting my hands altogether. This horse will have to mind me for while while I find my 1980s seat again. Petrified I'll bang his good intentions in the mouth.

You'll have a blast! I have only done one Trec but it was a level 2 on my vet's horse, I had only ridden her a couple of times previously and had never jumped her until the day of the comp. I naievely listened to the vet's assurances that she had jumped before, and was told on the day as she cavorted sideways into the jumps, snorting and pulling before pinging them dramatically, that she hadn't actually seen a fence in about six months.... We survived! The obstacle course was great fun, do-able for a complete Trec newbie, and I loved the orienteering. You sound much more prepared than I was, there was only a couple of jumps on my course and the bridge was perfectly fine, nothing horrendous. Just have a bash and remember that you entered this to have fun! Nerves are nothing more than excitement - repeat after me "I am not nervous, I am excited!"

I agree that its important to remember we do these things for fun! It will all come together on the day. I am taking our boy to a Trec obstacle training session tomorrow and expect he will be all over the place as he is still young and very green. I'm not looking forward to him behaving like a loony. Wish we could get to the competition next weekend but haven't got transport. Good luck Kanga and have fun ;D

Flip! They are talking about cancelling due to the small entry. Please no, not after all this winding up.

Flip! They are talking about cancelling due to the small entry. Please no, not after all this winding up. Oh no, I hope not!! You'll be fine, honest. That TREC I went to last month had two jumps, 2' and 2'6" - if I can jump them, so can you!! You'll have a lovely time, and Flynn will be a total superstar (as always!)

Did it... well most of it! The orienteering phase was very exciting but waaaaaaaaaay too long. Note to self, do Level 1 next time even if they ask you to do Level 2. Three hours. Report on General board. Your horse is looking amazing Daisy, how are you getting on?

I shall read the report in a little while with a cuppa to hand. 3 hours !!!! You`ll ache today My lad is doing great, thankyou for asking, i really should update sometime soon ... he`s really starting to fill out into himself and mature. Backed and started last year, plenty of groundwork, longlining and walks out inhand .. we`re already out and about this year ... and so far he hasn`t put a hoof wrong.

That's great. You found your partner. It can take time, but it's well worth it. I never thought I would be out in company cantering around on anything, least of all a spooky 16.1, but the friendship is there and that makes all the difference.

well done kanga. it takes a lot of courage to do what you did, throw me some of that courage my way ;D. I think wibbles will always be there, especially if your confidence has been knocked previously, and, after all they are huge powerful unpredictable animals! WELL DONE!!!
