I posted a little while ago about my haflinger and I was too scared to ride on my own. Time without pressure to ride and the fact my other haflinger has gone to a friends to be backed I have decided to give it a go. I dont have anyone to ride with so it is me or nothing. I have got the day off on Friday and I am going to go for it! The weather is supposed to be nice so please send positive thoughts to me and Arki. Fingers crossed

Sending positive thoughts your way - hope you have a lovely hack.
BUT, don't pressurise yourself too much. If on the day you don't feel like riding, just chill out with your horse (here's still hoping you go for it, though!)

Hi Arki, I remember your other thread as I explained to you that my haffie could also be a little pig. Stay strong and I hope you get on OK. The thing with haffies seems to be the balance of power. If they have any doubt in their minds they take advantage of it. I have always had the best results by establishing leadership (me not him ;D) in the first quarter of a mile. Being really firm and using the schooling whip on his neck/shoulder. A couple of wops with it and a lot of swearing and growling and he gives in and we have a nice time. Try anything that could help, scotch, rescue remedy, keep repeating that you are going to do it, whatever it takes. Once you have got the first bit of the ride done and he realises you are in charge I expect he will be great. good luck

Good luck - but remember you don't have to ride on Friday if you find don't want to. There's the whole summer ahead to enjoy.

Have you been out for a hack with your Haflinger, Arki? I seem to have turned a bit of a corner with my Fjord and we've been out a few times now. Hope things are going well for you too.

Hi it has been a little while since I posted -my boy was a complete nightmare when I tried to hack him out on my own. On the way back I saw a girl who have talked to a little bit and she offered to ride him for me.I have seen her ride so was happy with this -well this has worked perfectly she rode him for 7/8 times and I am now hacking him out on his own with confidence. i am so grateful to her and it was so nice this morning to go out for a hack on my own with my dogs and enjoy the nice weahter. It has been a long time coming but I think my bioy needed someone else to give him the confidence to go out on his own. Fingers crossed all will continue well but it is good to know there is someone at the bottom of the lane that can helpout when necessary

That's brilliant I have a friend who helps with my horses when my confidence takes a dip, and it's made a massive difference
