Hi Everyone
I've been lurking for sometime now but feel its time to say Hi! I'm in my late forties been riding since I was nine and owned horses for last few years. I lost my first horse to colic 8 years ago when he was only 9 and then bought my mare a few months later. She is now 11 but was unbroken when I got her. She is a welsh x irish draft 16'3 and used to be quite bolshy when younger and , she still has her moments!
I never had a confidence issue until I lost my first horse and ever since I have had my mare my confidence to leave the school and ride in a field has completely gone! It has gradually eroded over the last few years not helped by the fact she has a tendency for attention lapses ,she is a very nosey mare! She also can bronc (not massively so it unseats you) when excited and bucks in canter (also ok to sit to) on occasions which are not too much of a problem in the scholl but the thought of open spaces and possible airs above ground albeit not massive, NO WAY!!!
The yard we are on has a few fields to go around not many and one has a steep slope so I avoid that completely the others I will go in when, but only when its warm sunny no wind or any horses likely to run about etc we will go and walk very slowly around, although those fields we out of action from last september until now and now I;ve got to re build my nerve to go into them again.
We dont hack off site as it means going up a lane used by motorists that is very bendy and not many passing place, and 2 years ago my mare was struck on her behind by a truck's wing who was driving in the middle of the road and too fast. It was a very near miss, I wasnt riding her my friend was and ever since the roads are a no no and my mare is now far more wary of traffic than before (no surprise there then) Any way if you've made it this far thank you and my question is does anyone know an instructor who specialises in confidence issues in the bucks beds area, my mare is at a yard nr Whipsnade and ideally it would be great if I could find an instructor who understands these sorts of confidence issues I have a lot of things I really want to get sorted as I feel I am not doing my lovely horse any justice and I'd love to get on and get over these gremlins and get on with it!!! So easy to say when you've had wine!!
Any info greatfully received and thanks for reading.
