???i need some inspiration please, due to injury and bad weather my horse hasnt been ridden since end of november,i damaged the tendons in both of my arms and now last week i fell down a rut in the field and ruptured my calf muscles,i'm on crutches and still can't put any weight on my leg but i'm dying to get out and ride boris when i'm better but something in my head is stopping me. so does anyone have any tips to inspire me,i've battled confidence issues before and won but can't seem to get over this one (when i'm able to walk) I've asked a local girl to come and ride him for me but so far she hasnt been able to come,i've asked my daughter but she only wants to ride her own horse, so help please, thankyou.

Milo read the sentence 'I've battled confidence issues before and won' - you can do this again. THis time though there are other problems with your injury (poor you) but don't compare to before - take it slowly and gradually. Why not just sit on him and have someone lead him around at first if you are in pain? There is no problem with that - I've learnt to hack again by being on a long rein - my logic - if you're nervous you can go on the lunge and so I walk out with someone who has me on the lunge! He didn't mind so I didn't either.
Do what you want and take steps where you feel safe. As for feeling bad and down do what Kelly says - get into the habit of writing down 3 good things that happen to you each day. Its amazing how your view on the world changes. Will be thinking of you.x

I know exactly what you're feeling, my confidence is up and down all the time, and I know what hard work it is to be constantly fighting against yourself! If you've done it once you can do it again as holi has said, and I also would agree with her that you start at the beginning, with what you're comfortable to do (even if this is standing next to your horse and stroking him) and gradually move onto the next stage when your're ready. Its not a race. You can't go from 0-60 in one step, it may take 60 steps but so what if it does?
One positive thing I have found though, is that when I have lost confidence and then get it back, i'm a bit further along the road if you know what I mean. So it may happen that way for you too.
Good luck and take all the time you need x

Think how much Milo will love going out with you! I bet he has missed doing stuff with you - Jos loves riding, even with my fat backside on him. Perhaps even just sit on him a few times before actually moving anywhere?
Big ((((HUGS)))) from us xxxx

When I lost my confidence with my horse, I started by setting tiny goals, and I worked on the ground with her first using the Dually before getting on...I led her on the short ride I was going to do so we were both prepared and that helped me feel safer. I also got someone I trust to walk beside me the first time, then the next few times I worked on doing a few steps without them beside me and built it up slowly. It is a steady journey but it's worth it. Good luck:)

I would agree with Dalesgirl do some groundwork when you feel well enough. Then pick your moment to do something more. With Fizz I give myself the option to not ride. If it is windy or he is in a silly mood, then I don't pressure myself to get on. I put the tack in the car and if all is well we proceed from there. I haven't ridden much or even handled him much over the winter (I have full grass livery). But he seems more than happy to be ridden now the ground is drying up. Lx
