Our vet called by this afternoon to collect her little christmas pressie. She was telling us that she spent this morning rescuing a horse from a swimming pool The photos were fascinating. The owners ( whose pool it was ) found her in the pool this morning but not sure how long she had been there.. She had got out of the field, walked through the tennis court and straight into the pool Our vet called the fire brigade and the rescue got underway with them draining the pool. The mare was kept calm by feeding her hay from the edge of the pool and when the water was at a level for her to stand without panicking, they gave her a little sedative while the crane and straps were bought in. She was saying that since the fire service had this new animal rescue training, the guys are just amazing and know instinctively how to cope this panicked horses etc. ( I think i read recently how Sarah Weston explained about this new training that the rescue services had undertaken ) The mare was lifted out of the pool and the most incredible thing was when her temperature was taken after several hours in the water etc, it was near normal Our poor vet returned to her car, freezing cold and wet only to find that her car was stuck in the mud and she had to wait to be pulled out and rescued herself ;D Great job by all concerned

Phew. Glad they got her out ok. Our local Fire Brigade have had this training too thank god. My old YO's mare spooked at something and went backwards down a ditch and they just rolled up and pulled her out. Brilliant!

If you want to give moral support to the Animal Rescue Teams please join the Friends of the Hampshire Animal rescue Team facebook page. These are the guys that are training the rest of the country and I am pleased to say that IH is involved.

Amazing - www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-sussex-12044200I wondered why they couldn't put bales of straw/hay in to make a stairway for the horse to climb out. I'm sure I've seen that used before somewhere. I think the BHS are involved with training firecrews how to handle horses too.
