Hello All
Well the winter weather has hit us in Bucks. What great time of year for my horse to rip 2 of his rugs! Went to get him in today, Amigo rug shredded (1200d as well!). Last week one of the other ponies ripped his brand new Premier Equine rug. I've now put on the last rug I have with no hope of getting another one this side of Christmas! That's another Premier Equine and if this one gets ripped we are both stuffed!
What do do? I ordered some tent mending tape, but that isn't likely to get here now, even if I can make it to my office, so just wondering if anyone has any short term fixes I can try?
Thanks!
Mel

Someone told me the other day to use the fabric off an umberella and some duct tape. Won't be as strong as proper rug material but will be waterproof so may do as a temporary measure.

My friend always used to copydex patches onto her ripped rugs and it seemed to last for ages. Dunno if it would work in the wet tho'!! I sew mine on, time consuming but works for me.

I've used plain old gaffa tape in the past until I could get it to the menders

It's a shame you're not nearer, I offer a 1 day turnaround rug repair service

I tried duct tape but that lasted all of 2 mins! I don't have any old rugs I can use but will see what I can conjure up tomorrow! Not heard of copydex patches but it's worth a shot!
I think he's playing with the other horses in his field and his rugs are getting ripped in the process. His field mates rug was half hanging off when I got up there this afternoon!
Thanks for all your advice!

Not Duct tape, you want Gaffer tape, the seriously seriously sticky stuff, i've successfully stuck some massive rips with it until i could get them repaired properly.
If they are just straight rips and the two sides meet together then Stormsure glue is the only waterproof glue that will work but it does take an age to dry, a couple of days at least and the bits you want to stick together need to be really clean and dry before you use it. I have used it before and it's never come unstuck, if the rug is dirty round the rips then rather than wetting it, use some baby wipes to scrub the muck off first then rub vigorously with a rough towel to lift the fibres up around the rip before sticking.

Aha will invest in some gaffa tape! I bought myself some Tenacious sealing and repair tape, apparently repairs tents, jackets, watersports gear and all sorts. I've attempted to mend 2 rugs with it, didn't last long! Still got one rip outstanding on one rug, so going to order some more then see how it goes!
