I have had vets come to give my horse his flu jab and hardly been on the place for more than five minutes. Walked in to the stable, inject, scribble in the passport and leave.
Today the vet came and looked at the passport, took his pulse, listened to his lungs from both sides and gut sounds, before she gave him the injection. I was impressed.

Yes isn't it sold now as an "annual health check". I would not be impressed if they jabbed and left!! Well I blabbler on too much so they'd get life history before I put the headcollar on!!

You can get an annual health check, but that is an extra charge with my vets. A good idea, especially as they get into teenage years.

Mine used to hang around to check whether there were any adverse reactions

Mine usually looks over him too. And I think if I'm paying £80 for five mintues work then I'm jolly well going to get my moneys worth so always have a long list of questions to ask Last year's jabs were combined with an in depth discussion on laminitis prevention and his teeth were followed by sarcoids talk. Am currently plotting my next discussion to go with his next jabs!! ;D

We always get a check over and a chat about how he's been, and for routine stuff like vaccinations we don't have to pay for call out either, pay on the day and just for the jab. I love my vet ;D

When Tara or the cats go for thier annual jab, they get eyes ears, heart lungs etc looked at/listened too.. why should it be different for horses?

I put a thread on here a few months back asking if any one did it their selfs because I begrudge paying all that money for a ten second job. You guys said that the vet should do a thorough check up whilst she was here. So when she came out and after I had totted up George because he'd been on and off lame through the summer. I brought him into the yard I said, of course you'll be checking his heart? She did but then walked into Tosh's stable stuck the needle in and walked back out. Why didn't I say anything
