I am new here but I just wanted to tell everyone what a great experience I had yesterday. If anyone fancies having a go at western riding I went for a day to The Mendip Stud. It was FANTASTIC. Monty makes it all look so easy in the demos but it is so much harder than it looks, but SO much FUN. It is a really lovely way to ride so gentle and relaxed. John and Lou who run it are really nice and down to earth. The horses are lovely, really well mannered, light and responsive (if you are pushing the right buttons. Give the wrong cue and the just do nothing as if to say "What the heck are you asking?"). The food and the welcome etc. all great. If anyone is stuck for christmas or birthday gift ideas for a horse lover I would thoroughly recommend a Western experience or lesson at the Mendip Stud. It will certainly be on my present list!

Hi & welcome I went in October - it was one of my 60th pressies - glad you enjoyed it too. Who did you ride? We stayed over with our dog, the room was lovely and the house is gorgeous. Lovely vibe there. The other 2 (max 4 per day) on the course (mum & daughter) were really good company, and I know they are/were returning in Dec with husband/dad. Not you, was it?! I hope to go back when my friend has her Experience day next year, and learn some more.

Hi rj, I rode Splash, she was really nice. I won't normally get on a horse without my back breaker, sorry I mean back protector, I felt the only thing the back protector was doing was restricting my movement and making me feel like a turtle trapped in a shell with my head poking out the top, so I took it off part way through the morning and never thought to put it back on, I felt so safe on her.

Ah yes, Splash was used in our session too, by the youngster in our group! Very sweet little mare, but then, aren't they all?! I loved the covered school. It was (literally) freezing when we were there, but the roof kept the worst of the weather off, and the view of the hills was amazing. Reckon John would have been the coldest of all, as the riding keeps you warm. So you'll be doing more Western in the future then?
