I would chip in £5 for transport. Christmas charity I was trying to work out if we could squeeze him in, but sadly no room. So sad that a horse that has earned his keep for several lifetimes has been passed on to an unknown fate.

I called the owner and told her the Atos story and suggested calling previous owners. She knew the previous owners since he was a 4 yr old and none are interested. Shame! That was worth a try

I've offered the use of my lorry - I know Monkey and live not far from her. So if we could cover some of the fuel costs somehow, or if someone could bring him part way ...
I am jumping the gun a bit though, I don't know what her OH thinks of the idea!!

Approximately how much would it be?

Been reading through the thread with interest, but can't help feeling this lad is just one of so many. Watched the Puissance on TV yesterday afternoon, and they were saying one horse was bought just for that event and would be sold on again after. He had already changed hands several times on the same basis. What a way to treat horses :-( Good luck to this horse, and all the others who have more than earned their keep (whatever that means) in their lives.

I too watched that and thought about all those horses that will be discarded at what i see as a young age from a hobby horse point of view. And jumping that (imo) insane height must have severe impact on the joints. It takes my breath away watching it but it also makes me cringe :-(

I have just messaged people who have generously PM'ed me about offers of help. I've just had yet another long chat with my husband who is still opposed to the idea. I have started to see his side of the reasoning and am slowly realising that we simply do not have the time or finances to support another one.
I am grudgingly going to have to step aside and let someone else take him on for the rest of his years. I am gutted, but I also need to be realistic about this. For his sake.

Heart-breaking but sensible decision, monkey. There's no point in over-stretching yourself, and not being able to look after those you already have properly. Let's hope someone who can afford to keep him, will take him over. Sounds like the person selling him, cares about him.

Being realistic is so important imo Monkey. Taking another may have stretched you so far that all yours loose out. I support your decision fully. I do hope this horse gets a chance of a 'good' home but the enormity of the 'problem' is depressing tbh. All credit to those who do even a small bit to help.
