Ahhh - made for good reading/watching on a cold winter's evening ;D
And the article on Martin Clunes "Horsepower" made me want to watch the series. Anybody know where I can get it? I don't have Sky.

OH groaned when he saw the DVD, I've only just stopped making him watch my Racehorse to Riding horse one!

Horsepower was on iplayer but may have expired...
The listening post is great. And what a super pic on the front. I popped into the newsagents to buy something to get change for parking (bear with me!) and bought horse and rider. It cost £3.80!!!
So my membership with the listening post x4 a year and free DVD ( as well as the other benefits) looks better value than ever!
Thank you ih & Kelly

I haven't been able to get on here for ages as my home broadband was down for over a week and my work computer won't open it anymore for some reason but just had to pop in to say I got my Listening Post and it's ace! Love the Santa hat on the front!

Yup, it's a great issue - very interesting indeed! Enjoyed the DVD too, especially the piece about the horse who was afraid of the moon. There was so much to look at in that one. The article about leading was thought-provoking. I agree that leading at (or slightly in front of) the horse's shoulder can cause the horse to move unstraight - a point that was illustrated nicely by the quoted video clip - but I'm not sure I agree that it has to happen. Anyway, I dare say there'll be chances to discuss this further in another thread sometime. The Martin Clunes interview was fun to read, and I was intrigued to learn that Sarah Weston has a zebra (or at least access to one). Is that right??

Sarah has access to Zebra, Zeedonks and Mammoth Donkeys. ;D She is so lucky. I prefer to lead at the horses head especially a horse I don't know or who is nervous. ;D

She is! <searches for envious smiley> I will lead at the horse's head, if that what feels right - I'm not dogmatic about which way is "right" because one or other way may suit a horse or a situation better. Having said that, I usually aim to teach a horse to lead happily (and straight!) from the shoulder.

Wasn't it interesting to read Nicoles article also about leading,on the following pages, and that highlights that it is important to be able to LEAD (not pull) a horse from various places? I think the handler has to teach the horse where it is expected to be in relation to them and make that consistent. Once again it's a case of bad leading is bad leading, wherever it's done from - always a potential for things to go wrong in so many ways. The cover pic was taken by Martin Clunes, and it is fab. Perhaps he could auction signed copies for the IH charity? Not watched my DVD yet,but looking forward to that at the weekend.....
