Two on our yard still have runny eyes, we thought it was pollen in summer but surely can't be now.
Vet has been out several times and tried Maxitrol, didn't make much difference. Tear production and ducts are ok, no ulcers or anything. Last vet visit they just said to try eye drops and not worry about it. But they still have major eye bogies every day.
Both live out btw and on forage feed.
Any ideas? Anyone else got this?

Umm Pol and Tof have some eye bogies but nothing too horrid, wonder if maybe its the wind that irritates? Bobby on the other hand had occasions on having long gooey eye bogies, stringy and sticky, not all over his eyes or anything, normally just in one eye or the other, has been something he has had on and off since we had him last year. His eyes arent inflammed, they dont irritate him or anything.

Annabelle. Moo sometimes still gets the odd as you call it "eye bogie" . Just a few days ago Dancer did too and Ned. I put is down to windy days or dust/seeds in the hay. I just bathe with a Camomile tea bag or Vamomile infusion on a cotton pad and it clears up. To be honest this is the time of year I get runny eyes and asthma....no other time of year

Yes one of mine has suffered on and off for the last few wks, vet just said to keep trying eye drops and mentioned that there was an unusual amount of stubborn conjunctivitis around this yr and wondered if it had anything to do with the mild spell we had and the pollen count as it was so windy at the same time.

In these circumstances we fit guardian mask and we see positive results.

Alex had gummy eyes left over from the summer. Gone through three tubes of Optrex Infected Eyes but no better. While I was at the vets a month ago I asked her to give him something for them. After a thorough check over she gave me some antibiotic drops. After six days one eye was running with thick pus/custard so got them back. Both eyes very sore under his eyelids and one ulcered. The drops did it. He then needed mre ointment to fix it and hes only just recovered

Rifruffian, what is a guardian mask? Did try a fly mask in summer, helped a bit but didnt clear it. At that point we thought it was wind, dust or pollen.
Maybe will try the camomile teabags Amanda! Either that or insist the vet gives us some more ointment to try again.
Literally within an hour of cleaning the eyes, there is a new bit of clear grey goo at the corner of their eyes. It drips down into a sticky teary mess below the eye. Same on both eyes. But vet says no infection or conjunctivitis.
That sounds nasty Donnalex! Poor horse. Have been using optrex drops too, the horses seem to like them being put in so presumably they are relieving some discomfort. Just wish we could get it to stop!
Thanks for all ideas, please keep them coming.

the guardian masks are great if the horse has Euveitis as there is a higher shade factor. Moo hasn't needed his for years.
Annabelle - think Ochams Razor - often it is the simplest things that are the solution. Camomile is so soothing. Also at one time we used Blink - it is a tear replacer for us uber sensitive contact lense wearers - it is VERY important to get the preservative free variety.

Just wondering what drops/cream the vet has prescribed? I had a persistant runny eye a few years ago, the usual chloromycetin didn't touch it but it cleared up with fucidin (anti fungal) drops. Don't know if this is any help but it could be a fungal infection rather than bacterial.
