Becky Holden is a classical trainer with over 20 years experience and has a portfolio of horses ranging from youngsters to affiliated dressage horses. She believes in a logical approach to schooling horses, incorporating work in-hand, long reining and work under saddle to ultimately produce horses that are relaxed, supple and working in self carriage.
This approach has yielded much success across a wide variety of horses and unlike other trainers Becky is always keen to demonstrate the difference this work can have on the rider as well as the horse.
The term ‘Riding from the ground up!’ has arisen as pupils have come to appreciate the impact correct groundwork can have on the rider. Traditionally, working a horse in-hand was seen as necessary for the horses benefit rather than the riders but by applying the aids properly pupils learn to recognize the importance of timing, lightness, core strength and begin to develop educated hands. Another great advantage from the rider’s viewpoint is the ability to see what the horse is doing as well as feel it leading to a greater understanding when back in the saddle.
Becky is now in much demand from riders across the UK that are seeking a kinder more effective way to ride and train. A good trainer of horses is not necessarily a successful teacher of riding and Becky’s clients recognise that she has the rare ability to do both. Not only will she unlock your horse’s potential but she will make sure that you are capable of developing it, enjoying your new partnership and making the most of it. Literally you are learning to ride your horse from the ground up!
The demo will include Lateral work, work in hand and long reins, how to introduce high school movements and ridden demonstrations by Becky and my 11 year old daughter Megan. Megan will also demonstrate in hand work with her new forest pony Leah.
I have been close friends with Becky for many years and watched with amazement how she has developed her skills. We were both introduced to long reining by Sue Rosenthal but Becky's talent with the work in hand is totally self taught, for anyone who can make it this is not to be missed!!
