Coopers is good, Net-tex is cr@p!!
Was thinking of trying some of the cheap aftershaves I have lying around from naff Christmas pressies! Some are are rank - hoping the flies think so too!!

Fly-away Defleqt! It actually works! I like Hydrophane (blue tin) but have known sensitive horses swell up in bubbles like a sponge so haven't tried it on my wussy sweet itch pony lol!

neem oil. I add a few drops of citronella, mix with a little warm water and an emulsifier (drop of plant based washing up liquid or soap nut) apply with a cloth.......Brilliant. I rub it in neat along belly top of tail under mane on my sweetitch suffererer. No sweetitch (touching wood ) for nearly 3 years now

Coopers, the only one that works. Used to get Jungle Formula Wasp Away which worked like a charm on horseflies but they don't make it any more.

Tried home made, skin so soft (still use for Shadow's dry skin) and other types...
... Coopers is the only one I believe actually 'works' and is about the same in price per amount used!

Jennyb, I've fallen in love with your horse. What a fantastic looking boy ;D
Fly spray, I mix iodine and baby oil a la Hannah Roses' remedy and it really works.

I've tried several... coopers.. deosect.. they work but not for long term like they ment to with mine.. Naf deet spray... made my sweet itch pony even worse!!
I now use a home made one and works just as well as anything shop brought.. Citronella, lemon grass, tea tree and lavender mixed with water a squrt of washing up liquid

Avon 'Skin so Soft' works for midges - someone else will remember which product. It's good for people & horses, and a fisherman discovered how good it was.
I think 'don't over-do the Citronella' is good advice. It has to be well diluted as it can be dangerous if used in unsuitable amounts.
