Just to let people know that there are spaces on the Five Day course in April, 12th -16th. Well, in fact there is a space on each of the Five Day courses, although the weekends are full up to July, now. I have copied the information below (from the other thread "Intelligent Horsemanship Riding Clinics". Mostly people who come on the weekend courses say they wish they had had more time, and having a consolidated block of time like a Five Day course can be a really valuable investment in acquiring and consolidating new skills, or getting to grips with an issue. These courses tend to be billed as Riding clinics, but we have also had people attend and do purely groundwork, such as long-lining, or in-hand work, or deal with a phobia or handling issue. Students from the Foundation Course have also attended to further their skills (although we don't teach join-up).

Intelligent Horsemanship Riding Clinics
with Nicole Golding and Adam Goodfellow
Nicole Golding and Adam Goodfellow are Recommended Associates, and holders of the Monty Roberts Preliminary Certificate of Horsemanship. We have both undertaken Teacher Training with Ride With Your Mind, Mary Wanless, and studied French school Classical Dressage. Nicole also teaches on the Intelligent Horsemanship Foundation courses with Kelly Marks.
We have been running highly successful Riding Clinics since 1999, and have helped people ranging from first-time riders to eventers, dressage judges, and BHSI’s. We have coached people who are stuck on a plateau, struggling to advance their riding, and we have dealt with serious ridden problems where communication had completely broken down between horse and rider. We have strategies for horses that are “dead to the leg”, “heavy in the hand”, or stiff and one-sided. We provide a safe, supportive environment to help people with confidence issues, and to help nervous horses too!
As well as dealing with ridden issues, we can help with any problems you may have on the ground. We’re also delighted to find that an increasing number of the people we work with don’t have any particular problems, but would like to enhance their relationship with their horse, or improve their performance for competition or personal satisfaction.
As well as riding and groundwork such as leading and spook-busting, we can also offer tuition in long-lining, including jumping and lateral work, and in-hand work to introduce and improve movements that are normally done under saddle.
Wherever people are starting from, and wherever their aspirations lie, our goal is to enable everyone to communicate with their horses with absolute clarity whilst using the least amount of pressure - physical or psychological - possible.
Our approach is to help the rider get in the best possible position - both physically and mentally - to help the horse understand and perform what the rider requires. If the horse has issues and difficulties that don’t go away as a result of the changes the rider makes, we will help the horse to understand what to do to make life under saddle easier for them. Once we have these basics in place we can work on the subtleties of the communication between horse and rider.
We keep the group size on our clinics small, currently 4-8 people, so that we can concentrate on the issues most relevant to each individual. All the practical teaching is usually one-to-one, so there’s no problem accommodating people who are at different stages of their learning. We call them riding clinics, but in fact they are an ideal forum to deal with any sort of handling issue too, such as loading , clipping, or foot-handling.
Areas Covered
Whilst this will vary according to the individual’s needs, areas we commonly cover are listed below.
ü The rider’s positioning, stability, and balance.
ü The clear and ethical use of the reins, the legs, and other aids
ü Confidence and communication issues
ü Lateral work
ü Transitions
ü Calmness, straightness, and forwardness
ü The horse’s willingness to participate in the process.
ü Relevant groundwork as required.
Feedback from previous participants:
“Well we have achieved our 2nd objective (from the homework set!) and we went to the competiton last Sunday near the motorway. Compared to last year I have an angelic horse!! He was so well behaved and calm it was great and so many people commented on it as well. He appeared only just interested in the motorway, not transfixed as last time, and still listened and followed me and only ate when allowed, even Mum was able to cope and didn't get very stressed at all!!! All on a headcollar too whereas last time I was having trouble with either the chiffeney or his bridle! It was a lovely stress-free day from my point of view and he loaded to come home with only a fractional hesitation which I ignored and kept walking and he just followed! He was so chilled (for him) that it was fabulous. I was chatting to the judge afterwards, who has seen him before, and she remarked on the change as well. It was definitely reflected in his tests as they were much calmer and therefore the stride was better with excellent tempo etc. The lady at my yard who sometimes does Archie for me has also said that she is much less intimidated by him and thinks he looks smaller! - I think he is just much more relaxed in himself and less on edge and therefore probably is smaller! not ready to run the whole time. Also the icing and cherry on the cake was that he was placed first and second in his tests gaining 67.4 and 67.24 percent respectively which was great, though personally I gave him 100 percent on manner improvement which means so much more and meant that I was over the moon with the whole day!!” Z & Archie
“I just wanted to thank you both so very much for all you help and guidance with Murphy and mostly myself! I found the course very enjoyable, and learnt so much. It's like you offered me the key to what I had been looking for all this time, even though previously I was not sure what that was, I just knew it was not right what I was doing. I think your techniques and approach are fantastic, and I am most definitely sticking to your way of riding and training, it just makes perfect sense.
I just cannot convey fully how delighted I was with the progress we made whilst at Moor Wood. Words cannot describe how pleased I was with the whole experience. I have learnt so much about everything to do with horses not just riding. I'm sure if I were to book two years private tuition, I would still be learning, that I am sure! Plus he loaded first time on the way home .
Keep up the very good work, and keep well and happy. I hope to see you in the near future. Thanks for everything, I cannot thank you enough.”
