Keeps horses and lives in Scotland or anywhere similiarly cold This period of cold weather has worn me out. My horses, i hope are ok and i have managed to get to them every day but ... I have nearly broken bones by slipping more times than i care to count ( I only stopped with the thought of sheer embarrasement that anyone might see me go over ) I have lost my voice ( OH loving that ) My fingers and toes have been frozen now for about a fortnight ( despite the best socks / boots / microwavable boot and hand warmers etc ) My car decides every morning to have frozen doors and won't let me in I cannot soak my hay and have to lug water to and from the house I could go on moaning and groaning but i won't because fortunately this is a rare occasion for us down South, but seriously those of you who do this as the ' norm ' .. huge hats off to you all

Oh yes Lorraine!!! I've got it easy especially as mine are at home!!! Having to travel to livery and tote water, hay etc. as well as worry must be such a strain.

The worst part here in the forest is the ice on the backroads. It took me half an hour to do a part of the drive that normally takes 2 minutes today when driving to feed TigerLily and Zee. I was so worried, I even drove in a riding hat!
Having to lug containers of water around everywhere is a nuisance too. The water in the fields around my house has all frozen and the pipes are frozen too.
Bring on spring!
How on earth do they cope with this for long periods in Scotland etc? I would love to move there, but I don't fancy months and months of this every year!

Awww poor you hun i have mine at home too but its still hard work and my field is on a slope so pushing a barrow up and down is near on impossible especially with a terrier attached to it on a lunge line and a great dane who insists on eating any fresh poo in sight lol! He even brings lumps over to Mac as he cant get to it! Roll on the spring! xxxx

Great minds think alike ay SS3 !!
Eileen, you don't need to push the wheelbarrow uphill surely ? Two longlines and Jake would do it for you, won't it ? lol

Thank you, thank you (takes a bow!) ;D
Well, we have been under several inches of snow since well before Christmas, and it has been about -6 most days for the past week. We are getting through MOUNTAINS of hay, and have been using the kitchen sink as the only water source for the horses since before Christmas... It takes me 20 mins to hay up the field, as I have to put little piles all over, or my lazy fat hipo stands and eats hay all day, but now I have to avoid the parts where the drifts are deeper than his legs...
But on the plus side, I'm going skiing tomorrow, because Glenshee is only an hour away, and the snow's a lot better than the constant rain we had up until December!
