My horses have the cleanest feet and legs I've ever seen!! Once I prize the frozen blocks out of their feet it's like brand new!!
No mud, no rain, no puddles, lots of bright sunshine - just wish my cats would see the benefits of snow!! They wont go out even with a gentle nudge!!

great photo! I LOVE the weather, no poo picking, no mud, no rain, clean and cosy horses, healthy feet. Only downside is my mare has the runs from wall to wall haylage eating! - any ideas? Sally

she comes running to me in the field instead of me trooping over to get her!

Sally I'm feeding Max (the black beast!) NAF Haylage balancer - it's supposed to firm up loose droppings, reduce the acidity, and balance the vits and mins etc, oh and meant to have a calming effect - not that he needs that! I ordered it online from Surreyequestrian and it came within 48hrs!

I can walk the dogs without them getting muddy and having to bath them as soon as i get home! The snow is a very good grazing muzzle so i can let my ponies have the run of the whole big field knowing the ground will stay hard and they have to do a bit of work to find the grass!

My wellies have never been so clean and its been lovely as my son Tom, who's only 9, has been helping me do the evening feeds. Lovely bonding time with him as he talks non stop. Can't imagine who he gets that from ;D

Second that, sarah, my muck boots haven't been this clean since they left the shop!
Lack of mud is a fantastic thing, and the walks to and from the ponies are doing great with one of the New Year resolutions (to get out on nice long walks with the dog more often!). Watching the sun rise in a clear blue sky this morning was just beautiful.
Lack of traffic and general community spirit makes me realise how rubbish modern life can be when we're all dashing about and no-one has time for anything else. Procession of grinning children on their way to the sledging field right past our gate makes me want to join in! I'm liking this snow!

I've got some gorgeous photos of the horses.
I am catching up on admin and emails which I have been meaning to do for months and months!
I felt a fantastic sense of community yesterday when we'd run out of hay and our farmer friend got out a giant bale and came down with it on a fork lift snow proof truck. It was a 'money can't buy feeling' and it reminded me of that old 'That's what friends are for' song.

Yes my hay supplier couldn't bring much last time but is delivering today as 'oh can't leave you short in this weather'!

It means I'm the same as everyone else at the yard! Not the 'nervous one', cos no one is riding!!

Its been a brilliant oportunity to do some groundwork and bonding with the ponies which usually gets missed for riding, also its been great for keeping Skys weight on as she is in and warm and eating also its been fab driving past all the people in their posh cars in my 4x4

I dont think many of you will agree with this but my horse is kept at a DIY yard and the herd of 20 have about 20 acres at any one time. Spring is a nightmare as the YO does a fabulous job of having 20 acres of beautiful, long green grass for the herd to go onto in the spring. I end up standing my horse in during the day or keeping him in for an additional month at night to keep his spring grass intake down.
Now my point is ...................................................if it stays really cold for a while, the grass won't grow quite so much and I wont have to worry, worry, worry quite so much about weight and laminitis. There you are - every cloud has a silver lining or in this case a snowy one!
