So, is there a cheap way of being able to view the horse in your horsebox/lorry, and not spend a fortune Ideally it would be portable (so I can use it on a fair few different vehicles) and live - but would settle for being able to download the recording later ;D Was thinking along the lines of a wireless webcam, but wondered whether it would have the signal to get through the metal of the trailer/lorry. Anybody had experience/got any ideas? Thanks

When I was at Hartsop Gitte Mognahan (sp!) had a camera in her trailer that she said wasn't an Ifor one. I think she got her mechanic to set it up for her and it cost much less and they used a normal video camera mounted in the trailer linked to a screen in the car. I'm not sure if it would transfer that easily from one trailer to another but she was really pleased with it

Thanks for the suggestions both - think the reversing one would be brill if you could either hook it up to appear all the time or when side lights come on etc... Did have a thought today actually - I'm going to try mounting my digital camera (as it has a good size memory card) in the horsebox and set it to record video - I'll see how stable it is and whether you can read much off the footage when put onto the computer... Will let people know how I get on...

My OH ordered a camera and a monitor from this electrical place.
He's put the camera in the trailer and when the electric cable is connected you simply plug in the lead from the monitor in the cigerette lighter bit in the car.
Lovely 8" monitor in colour and I can watch my mare. I think by the time he bought everything it was about £50

we tried the cheap way but it really didn't work! so eventually bought the trailer vision and now have no trailer, doh!!! Oh dear...it's hard because a) I need something cheap (I am a student after all ) b) it needs to be transferable between boxes easily (so don't really want to have to be hooking up to different wires all the time) as planning to use if for my case studies now Stage 2 is over ;D I thought it might be a good idea for people to view how their horse travels and also pin point any 'improvements' in how they take corners roundabouts etc...in terms of how their horse coped. SO the reversing thing I liked (thanks for the suggestions) but was unsure on tinkering with wires and vehicles that aren't my own! Also trailer vision is way out of my price range! Still in prep mode for case studies so will be exploring this more later in January; still acquiring many items now, but do get you a fair few strange looks in the shops.......buy a feather duster, tarpaulin and 2 umbrella's all at once and you can just see the questions running through people's minds ;D

The one my OH put in is very similar to Trailer Vision and the amount came to just over £50.00 - it was the colour monitor that cost the most. Ours is wireless and live. I always watch my mare especially if I'm a passenger, its very interesting

Hi Bella, yes sorry seemed to have read over your post (apologies ) Do you happen to know what type of camera it is - or was it just a case of your OH walking into the electrical place and saying I need a camera to do X and transmit through X? Many Thanks
