I'm in withdrawal now. We're frozen solid again this morning with no walking/driving/riding/pony hunting (thinking that over again!). I think it's ten days since we hacked last. I hardened my heart and put them out last night as I can't move my neck or left arm from all the work and the persistent cold. Six year old daughter bouncing off the four walls. Winge... whine.... winge....

My road looks like yours Mandal, except that it is an extremely steep hill. Very interesting trying to attempt it with a wheel barrow. My mother-in-law tells me that pop socks over your shoes works wonders so going to try that tomorrow. As if I'm not unnattractive enough in my dirty trackies, ripped coat and trapper style hat. Oh well, gives the neds something to laugh at I spose. We are forecast another dollop of snow tomorrow which will be brilliant on top of this thick ice. Not going anywhere for a while I think but just praying my haylage delivery makes it to me tomorrow. Last week he slipped back down the hill on the snow and ended up in a ditch, not hurt just dented his lovely warrior. Please let it thaw soon x

We had a white Christmas ... and a white week before Christmas ... and a white week before that... and it looks like a white new year too, with more snow expected! Barely ridden since August due to flooding, and before the snow, field was mainly mud. Have to admit, I do quite like the snow, and at least now I can't see how awful my fields are. Temperature on car this afternoon was -7 . I guess it's much colder now the sun is in bed, and I just had to trudge out to yard in my dressing gown, cos one of my clever ponies had managed to put his stable light on by tossing his haynets. Water to yard was switched off a month ago to prevent burst pipes, and for last couple of weeks, even the tap outside the kitchen has been frozen, so I'm taking water in wheelbarrows from the tap inside the kitchen. Makes for a lovely wet kitchen floor... Ah, the joys of winter.

Steep hills have been a feature most of my life sonicboy but now I live in a flat bog! I thought the west of Ireland was supposed to be mild in winter! I haven't been out since Christmas Eve and will have to walk to the local shop tomorrow for cat food over the New Year as this cold snap is set to continue here. No driving as the iced road is now covered in a film of water! Luckily I only have to walk two miles and it's flat! The horses water was off again last night so back to buckets but back on this morning! I'm very lucky only had to do buckets for a couple of days and nights. The horses are now not allowed out of their yard as the main yard is now a sheet of wet ice! The poo situation is getting a bit dire though, I can't clear much of it as it's frozen solid but some has thawed on the top!! Using my metal poo picker is OK but it's blooming hard work trying to dislodge frozen poo when you're old and crumbly! lol Then there's the ice rink yard to negotiate! ;D Tomrabbit my Sister is using the quad trailer for water but her lane is now an ice rink too and the quad isn't much of a controlled skater!!! I know the wet floor thing from filling buckets well too.

Mandal - that is exactly what our road looks like - and then the three miles to the yard too. Lots of hills and very few passing places. Nearly spun off the road at least twice today. Poor horses getting fed up with sight of their fields... well, the lack of green stuff at least!
