One of the two nominated charities for this year: Registered Office: Hendre Fawr Farm, St Dogmaels, Pembrokeshire, SA43 3LZ Veteran Horse Welfare (reg charity no. 1104072). This is Alibi, who is now 25 and was due to shot 6 years ago as he had blown tendons, he was very thin and very nervous. These are our identical brothers bill and ben, these were rehomed from London Zoo

When me oldie was ill earlier this year, his owner didnt think it would be possible to for him to be ridden again, and with me breaking my leg, and her being pregnant worried about his care... she looked into possible retirement homes for him, and they all looked wonderful, and the horses happy... Fortunetly, he has recovered so well, and is back being ridden again, and two days ago celebrated his 30th birthday!.
These places are godsends for older horses whose owners cant look after them.

We are hoping that Julianne from the Veteran Horse Society will be joining up to the board very soon and can keep you all in touch with the wonderful work that they are doing.

Thank you for such lovely comments, although I should have said Alibi looks a little shabby round the tummy as this was taken in April and is still holding his winter coat.
It does mean so much when we can help people to care for their veterans.

Some photos of the barn when they arrived. I'm sure Julianne can explain further.

I think The Veteran Horse Welfare are doing a grand job, if you've read my polo pony post you will see that I try to help older horses as much as I can I myself owning quite a few of old timers our oldest being Penny, a shetland pony who's 41 this year! She shares her stable with Walter a very fat pet lamb.
