I know, I know I have been very quiet lately and not updating you all on what has been happening at one of the designated charities for this year.
Not that I haven’t been busy of course! We had little Zorro come down with pneumonia, both the vet and us thought we were going to lose him, but being the little fighter he is he fought back and at the moment is in fine health! I say at the moment, as we have equine flu doing the rounds of some of the animals. The first one to get it, Tumble, was very ill and whilst we awaited the lab results we closed everything down, even to a chain and padlock on the gate! This was because I had put a nice big sign on the gate saying we were in quarantine, but one lot of people still drove through, but the others thought they were fine as they parked up across the gate and walked down!! Once we got the results back that it was not the dreaded strangles and it was a strain of flu we obviously breathed a bit easier, but still tried to contain the outbreak so that the old and the young did not get it.
So far we have had about half of those here show signs or have been directly exposed to it but not shown signs. The foal, just over five weeks now, how time flies (!) is still unaffected and galloping around her field and terrorising mum!
We have had to cancel our AGM that was due tomorrow due ot the number of horse owners who we are advising not to attend because of the bug. We are also seriously thinking about cancelling our summer open day as we seem to be in the clear then about 10 or so days later we get another one with it!! So all the excellent fundraising being done across the board by all of you are really needed as our vets bills alone are building up very steeply.
I am sorry this is a bit long but I will try and update once a week or so as we go along. If you want a slightly different view on life here please follow my wife’s blog mountainsandmuckheaps.blogspot.com/
Thanks again for your interest and your fundraising for us and the Lambourne RDA.
Stop press!!!!!!!!! Well done Kelly and Pie !!!! Way to go girl!!!!
