Am currently horseless. If that's still the case at the time I'll happily play photographer if I can persuade OH to provide the wheels!

OK will do organising for Highland.. this is a HUGE area .. from just south of Inverness up to John O Groats... and from Ardnamurchan over to Nairn best map I could find of the Highland region is here www.highland.gov.uk/yourcouncil/yourward/default.htm#wards, I'm on the border between Cromarty Firth and Tain / Easter Ross... ( light green and light blue areas). The place I keep Nita at is going to do Horse b & bs so would be an excellent destination for riders... we have a wonderful network of Trails... from short to reeeeeeeeeeeeeeaally long.. I also have some links to the Highland region endurance club so could tap into their network for routes etc too.. If anyone from Dan Souf (Yorkshire, Lancashire, Northumbria or Cumbria and the Sassanach regions of Scotland) would like to ride to John O Groats.. I will happily assist with route planning etc and even support for Northern end) NOW There's a Challenge

what a fantastic idea :-) I'll happily take part - we're on Surrey/West Sussex border and could potentially do a "handover"

I'm up for an Essex section riding or organising brambles mum ? I can probably do something in North Yorkshire, and offer a stopover for horses for anybody who's really hardcore and wants to do more than one day, or use it as a pick up point . that will be brill sarah ........ does your "do something " include organising too Up for that south west, bristol section, but rubbish at organizing as you all know! we will take that as a YES and you can practice organisational skills eden ..... think positive There will be lots practicalities to consider re the format / legalities / costs etc even if it is up to each area how its organised . If we are looking for max participants / impact / publicity it will be a different kettle of fish to a low key few individuals in each area getting sponsored to ride from A to B

Perhaps the people who cant ride/dont have a horse can be marshalls, someone to get in contact with if there's a problem, and to check thier routes with... Tea-ladys..etc...
this would be fantastic if it was pulled off.... need to get some publicising done..contact local and national papers...

i wonder if maybe bridlerides would be willing to sponor us, there pretty good at sorting routes out, lands end, ? somehow across to surrey /wessex /lincs woulds, derbyShire into pennine way, ??lancs/yorkshire, we need at least 5 people in each area to make the riding less than 45 miles, id be dead if i rode so far, id be up for 20,maybe if we organised it so lets say i rode 20 miles from home via tracks/rd, and met up with someone else, who then went onto sarah dents, via tracks rd, these 5 ish people could co-ordinate them selves and report back to head office so to speak, realistically i think we should be looking at 1 maybe 2 weeks for the baton to reach the other end of the country, when its close we can or could scoot upto the highlands for a welcome home party with our tv crew in tow,
about 10 years ago i was kind of involved with a film crew who did a program with channel 4? from memory it was called one day in bronte counrty oR something to that effect, i know this chap likes to make these kind of documentation programs on real lives, i think if we could find out the chaps name, as i just cant re=call it,(JEFF??) or if someone could trawl the net looking for this old program id be willing to speak to him, jog his memory of who i am, (dont think he will forget as he came to an anne summers party to film it "que jenny getting silly and wafting something big and buzzy infront of camera,) it might lead to nowhere he maybe retired, but it may provide a link to someone who can cover this amazing story, IT CAN BE AMAZING) IM OK ON IDEAS, MY ORGANIZIING SKILLS ARE BIT DIM,, OPPS, SORRY WASNT SHOUTING, next?lol

also, lol full of today is sat here with an infected foot,
if we got the presentable package together, for film makers, university film makers,
we could then place an advert in farmer guardian , b&b websites to see who is willing to help put people/horses up, and find foot soldiers, get horse and hound to cover it , and other mags before the event takes place, maybe we could collect money on the way, so could we use a charity number,

I mentioned it at work today and got an enthusiastic response.
If you are going to do it, another group of people to let know as soon as possible would bethe riding clubs, pony clubs and riding schools. The clubs could then put it in their schedules rather than anything else they may have been planning, some of the schools may well let some of their weekly riders take part.
