This oil has many anti-bacterial uses and is used in cough medicines and lozenges. If the oil is inhales it has a soothing effect on the respiratory tract as well as being a decongestant for cases such as bronchitis. Eucalyptus also has anti-immflamatory and analgesic properties. The probable lethal dose of the oil is between 0.05ml and 0.5ml per kg for an adult.

Aha - you found the information that eucalyptus is poisonous if taken internally. Well done. I wonder how they get it into those awful throat sweets?

Not exactly scientific proof, but relevant, my partner takes a bottle of Eucalyptus whenever he is flying. He puts a couple of drops on a wet tissue and inhales it as the plane starts its decent. His sinuses go crazy when landing and the eucalyptus helps to clear them so that his head doesn't feel like it is going to explode!

That sounds like a good idea, haven't heard it before, but the decongestant would work well in that situation.

When answering the last question in assignment three - "what oil should not be used... epilepsy and diabetes", I found there were a lot of contradictions from different sources. Some said Eucalyptus was good and some said it was bad. Very confusing.

The question was meant to refer to which oil of the 4 being discussed, and you could refer to my oils usage guide. The reason for the confusion could be the same a it would be for Geranium Oil, which balances blood sugar levels and can help diabetes - however it should only be used by a trained aromatherapist as dosage is quite crucial. Therefore the general advice is 'avoid'.
