If you're starting at a little local unaffiliated show, your normal bridle will be fine - preferably with a snaffle bit and a coupler on your lead rein. (A coupler has two clips to attach to both rings of the bit). Or even just put the normal reins over the pony's head. Dress smartly - jods & jacket (most people would wear a riding hat too) and jod boots would be fine - or plain trousers with the show jacket. Perhaps go to the first show or two without your pony so you can watch and see what other competitors are wearing, and how successful they are.
You can learn loads by just watching. Ask judges/stewards for advice, too. At the end of the day, at whatever level, I take the attitude that I'm going for fun/experience, and if I'm not placed (or placed lower) because I've made a mistake, then I've learnt something, and it's not the end of the world!
Enjoy!!!
