I find that a bit sad... Zebra's are truely wild animals and should be left as such.... but no, man needs to conquer them as well!!

Wow - that was a surprise! I've always wondered if someone would manage to get a zebra to that stage. I read in some evolution book somewhere that they had been deemed as unsuitable for domestication because they were too aggressive. Must admit, that puzzled me somewhat - perhaps a response to the 'traditional' techniques employed all that time ago??

Zebra certainly have a reputation for being difficult. They have been ridden/driven in very rare cases.





I'm not sure about the whole taming thing. I don't always feel comfortable when I see 'wild' animals being treated like pets. But then I'm not sure I'm that comfortable with how many pets are treated either!!!

That was definitely a surprise. I always thought that they couldn't be ridden due to their conformation - something to do with the alignment of their spine. Or I could be talking rubbish. Anyone ever heard that before?

I used to work at the zoo and there was a lovely zebra mare who was a dream to handle, the only one out of a herd of 20 though, they are sooo dangerous, small and crafty too =.)

could be argued that all animals were wild at some point but some proved to be useful to us as domesticated critters. Given no physical problems (and I don't know anything about said stripeys) and the zebra is happy (which appearances seem to indicate that it is) I can't see a problem to be honest given the right circumstances etc.

That one looks pretty broke to me. Theres alot of people over here that have tamed coyotes. If they get them when they are really small, don't let them get bred and raise them by hand, they tame down like a regular dog.

I wonder if that rumour that zebras couldn't be tamed wa started by someone who wasn't very good at starting normal horses! If they are anything like donkeys (which I suspect they are more like than horses), I can see how some "expert" would say that.

There is some stuff on the internet about Zebras having a different skeleton than a horse so it can't carry the weight. So basically if you ride them very much you are risking real problems with the health of the Zebra. I'd be really interested in the view from anyone who knows about this (rather than me googling it which isn't very scientific!).
