Please be careful, how much experience does this guy have? I am dubious for one because of the way the harness is adjusted. I'm sorry but no matter how chilled the pony you really cant break him to harness "over the Xmas period" well not safely anyway. He needs lots and lots of long reining over all sorts of surfaces, pulling a tyre, 3 people around when he is put too etc, its not a quick process I'm afraid. I am not trying to be critical but as one who has had to put right ponies who have been far too quickly broken to harness without enough time spent on each stage, I am just concerned thats all. When things go wrong with a pony in a carriage, believe me they go VERY wrong, he looks a super sort, please take your time with him.

I hear you pollymania. it will be well under way over the christmas holidays, i dont expect him pulling a trap over christmas lol, but he will be getting well used to wearing a harness and long lined in it, he did say he wasnt going to pull it tight for his first session and he also said the same as you, that it will take time and alot of repetition, the guy seems to take about 6 a year to break so i hope he knows what he is doing as i havent got a clue. I do know someone who paid him to break to harness and they were happy with the results.

I know what you mean when you say he's taking it in his stride, some do, then seem to look at us and say "well, get on with it then" Some laid back characters can and will take the cart within 2 weeks and come on in leaps and bounds, and never look back or put a foot wrong.......some it takes longer to convince......one or two you will never convince. Now you need to look for a nice immaculate trade vehicle for him!

Cool harness it realy suits him - what sort is it? He does look happy. Nothing wrong with things going well and ahead of plan so long as we take the time and have patience if things go slower.

Fab Gail, I know what a lot of groundwork you have put in with TJ already so I'm not surprised he took to it well. He's a super laid back horse and looks to be really enjoying himself there, I'm sure he'll make a fab driving pony for you!

He just put the blinkers on try them out, he started off without them, he doesnt have his own in blinkers so i guess he only puts them on if needed. Im not sure what get up it is, but its english leather, lovely quality and i bet cost a fortune... *saunters off to price up trade vehicles*..
