Hmmm interesting thread this one.
I like my yard but my YO is a over opinionated and i would like somewhere to put my stuff but that's it really. I am always on the hunt though incase something better comes along that is closer to home.

Yes I'm really happy. The yard owners are great and all the liveries are really nice. There's not too many of us and we are all very close and supportive of each other. This weekend everyone took me for a pub lunch for my birthday and bought me some lovely pressies and today Tim and Verne the yard owners made us all bacon butties and had a drink with us all. They also have a big open house on new years day with loads of yummy food and drinkies. What more could I ask for lol!
If your reading this Tim and Verne, thank you for all your help and support over the year, Bella and I really appreciate it xxxx

I have to echo Heather here! I love Tim and Verne's yard - they and the other liveries have made us feel so welcome. I have been there with Beau since September, when I bought her and they couldn't have been better. She is a very anxious, young and underconfident Arab mare (though has settled in really well) and I dread to think how things could have gone at another yard, especially as she is on full livery. I completely trust them to look after her and work with her so thank you so much guys. Hugely appreciated. xx

I love my yard, the owners and most of the other liveries are lovely and it suits me and the horses in lots of ways. Things I would improve? Not a lot really although a bit less mud out hacking would be nice, and the opportunity to yard / paddock to restrict grazing would be handy.

I voted yes and I'm on DIY livery. I'm on a small five horse yard - and my yard owner is the funniest man I've ever met. Very, very experienced and still competes in showjumping. He's more than happy to help out - but he's happy to let you get on with it as well and although will offer advice, he certainly doesn't shove it down your throat. My only slight criticism is that he's quite old school thinking and although he may not see the point of and poke a bit of fun at "rope-wiggling-ground-work" - he's certainly not "anti" it either. The other livery is fab - again, will keep herself to herself but also experienced and happy to help when asked but will keep quiet otherwise. She's done Parelli training and has given me lots of roundwork advice. The third livery I find slighly more difficult to get on with. She's a bit of a gossip and likes to think she knows it all - but we can certainly be polite and pass the time of day, so no real complaints! Grazing is good and not restricted in any way - it can get quite wet and poached in areas but the best clay grazing I've been on. Maintanence of the yard is always kept on top of & the sandschool is free to use with a good surface that doesn't flood with good floodlights. Hay and bedding is fantastic quality and all supplied for me - so makes life much, much easier. There a few minor complaints but overall I think my yard is brilliant

Have you got them running on the common? I used to go for walks on there at lunchtime for a horsey fix when I worked over your way

I've voted yes to DIY but could be better. I keep my horse on a private yard (so not strictly a DIY yard) but she lets 3 of us keep our horses there for £25 a week, hay and straw isn't included for this price. Positives are that it's only 4.5 miles from my house, the hacking's pretty good, YO's nice & will turn out if you ask & there's a floodlit outdoor school.
Negatives are the fields are horribly muddy and I worry about my horse pulling muscles, use of the menage is restricted to when YO's daughters aren't using it & I wouldn't want to rely on YO caring for my horse whilst I was on holiday as although she's a nice lady, she's rather slap dash! She has too many horses of her own & those don't get enough tlc by my standards. As she's not running it as a proper DIY business, I think looking after someone else's horse whilst they were on holiday would be somewhat of an after thought.
Due to this I'm toying with the idea of moving her to some privately rented ground which has two stables but then I have the disadvantage of no menage - but it is only 1 mile from my house. Other down side is my horse would have no company so I'd have to try to find a sharer. It's so tricky trying to find the happy medium!
