Hi All Do any of you use renegade hoof boots, if so what are your experiences and do you find they are best for your horses heels? Let us know! Many thanks IH Office

I've been using them for quite a while and of all the boots I've used I've found them the best on several fronts. They stay on very well, particularly if the feet suit the boot shape, are easy to put on and take off, have good grip, don't rub and are easy to keep clean.
They only come in smaller sizes though at the moment and are quite expensive compared to some of the competition. They're also difficult to use with pads so aren't ideal for horses straight out of shoes, and it's possible to pick up stones in them if your horse has flared feet and you go through a lot of deep mud. Definitely my preferred boot though.

I love them! They are best if fitted by a professional though so you ensure a perfect fit. I would recommend them t anyone!

Hi Yann Did you get yours from America? Thanks No, I bought all mine from a UKNHCP trimmer but I have bought spare parts direct from the USA without problems. So long as the hooves are within the right size range the only fitting that's needed is the adjustment of the cables so that you don't end up with too much loose velcro strap flapping about when you've done them up.

Do any of you who use Renegades have a horse that forges? I'm really tempted to try them for my horse but on the web site it says they are designed to tear if the horse hits them with a hind foot, and since this horse has a massive overtrack and whacks the underside of her G2s, that has put me off a little. I'm teetering on the brink of ordering Hoofwings instead but the Renegades do look great.

I'd not spotted that and I'm not sure what there would be on the boot that could tear, are you sure that's not referring to easyboots? Tess occasionally forges but I've had absolutely no problems from that, not only that but on the odd occasions I have lost a boot for any reason it doesn't damage them in any way, which is a major plus compared to bares/epics.

I have used them and fine them easy to put on and they don't rub. The velcro strap can come undone, especially if wet, so I put extra rubber bands to hold it in place. Pads fly out of the open back of the boots. I have found them slippy on wet mud.

I'd not spotted that and I'm not sure what there would be on the boot that could tear, are you sure that's not referring to easyboots?. No, it was definitely on the Renegades site. It said the sole was designed to tear away from the rest of the boot if it was caught by the back foot. I guess the question is how easy it is to catch the sole with a hind foot. Given that they are open at the back I'd guess it isn't impossible.

and do you find they are best for your horses heels? Could you clarify what you mean by that? If you want to bring back under run heels then the best option I've found is to tape pads on and turn the horse out. The pads embed in the foot and then that puts backwards pressure on the heels as the horse walks. You can walk them in hand in pads but turning them out in pads does the job better!

I use them behind and love them due to the grip and find they are perfect in mud. Cannot use them in front as feet are too big. I got mine directly from the US via the web site with no problems. You can use pads by fastening them in.
June, I think you need to E mail Kirt and ask about the forging. You can certainly get the boots with a factory "cut back" option which means they are cut slightly shorter (no more expensive you just tick the box on the ordering site if you want that) I know someone who asked this question before and I think they got help from him so it may be worth a go.
Has everyone seen the new easyboot gloves (hoofboots) on their web site? these have no metal catches and they appear to have a better sole for the tread so no more dremeling needed. They also come in half sizes for a better fit. If they are as quick to get on and off as their video shows then they will be as quick or even quicker than the renegades. I think it took 1 minute to get 4 on and half a minute to get all 4 off.

Will go and have a look - the only thing that would happen as far as I can see is that the boot would come off the hoof and either remain dangling by the pastern strap, or come off altogether. The heel basket is attached to the rest of the boot by tough cables, which I can't see parting in a hurry (mine on the original pattern boots frayed and perished after 9 months of continuous use but that's something that has been rectified with more recent ones). Interesting, but I wish they would do something different with the gaiters so they weren't destroyed every time you happened to lose a boot. Will doubtless be giving them a try though. High time they had some new models on the market, it's been a while

I have a pair - they seem to be very good, although I do not use them all the time. However I have no experience of any other makes.
I did get mine direct from the USA

Now I am interested, as I have easyboot bares I called non easy boots and then adapted to upbuckles which have been great although they can come undone if not set right or as they start to wear.. and even then on size 5 feet still little fiddling
