A friend of mine has just been told her husband (he's in the Army) is to be posted from Northern Ireland to Colchester in Essex - by 15 Dec! As a result she is looking for a DiY livery yard for her 2 boys Lucky and Star (Lucky is a 14.3 welsh part bred and is the Lucky of 'LuckyRed' and Star is a pony ridden by her 7yr old and 3yr old)
Does anyone have any contacts in the Colchester area - or yards to look for or avoid? Or anything else about horse owning in that area - she's never been to that part of the country before so will have to find farriers, chiros, dentists etc - starting from scratch!
Thanks

colchester has a garrison, which runs horsey showjumping events so I'd start there. Its a really horsey part of the world and just north of Colchester is an area near Priory saddlery, theres loads of small liveries there. As for local communication lines try Horsedates.co.uk.

Sara K's a good person to ask. Maybe send her a PM. I'll pm you with the details of my physio and my EDT. I'm not good on farriers in the area, though. As for her local RA if she ever needs one, she's drawn the short straw there... Essex Rider might be worth getting hold of. There are bound to be things advertised in there that might be useful.

Thanks everyone!
She's just rung to say she has a place for the horses at the Garrison saddle club - she sorted them out before even contacting the Housing Officer to sort out a house!

I guess there have to be a few advantages to being in the Army!

I don't think she liked the garrison that much cos she's moved the horses to another yard that is near some woods so the kids can hack out
neigh 1 - if you drop me your contact details for your yard I'll forward them to her in case the yard she's now at doesn't work out
