Yes he is OK. Got text off his mum earlier. Shes walked him again this morning before work and other people are going to walk him during today. He is a bit grumpy because he's wanting to go out though. But good that hes feeling more like his normal self. Thanks for all your good wishes.

Rosie
Hilton Herbs do a very good herb for the lymph system called "Cleaver & Marigold"
It has helped my boy no end. Also their "Equimmune Gold" will help the immune system, espeically during the winter and for the older horse / Pony
It is worth trying it

Thankyou very much Pauline. I have been reading up about Cleavers on the net. His owner doesnt really like him having antibiotics as she thinks they knock him a bit offside. Obviously hes on them now to hopefully get over this, but she does want to try something natural to help him. I've not seen him yet today, but he was Ok last night. Had his 3 walks out yesterday and seems to be doing OK.

glad Tom's on the mend rosie - I think grumpiness and hunger are good signs - lol when i read the post from pauline I gasped! the greyhound I rescued as a stray was in a dreadful condition when i caught him and throughout his life he has always eaten cleaver from the hedgerow!! In fact now he's quite elderly and doesn't go further than the garden and I brought him a bit the other day and he loves it! So there must be something in it - i have never seen it in any product or read of any benefits it has, until now, but animals know best

Before farmers started to remove hedgerows and horse owners wanted nice looking grass, horses and other animals would browses the ground, fields and hedges looking for and choosing what they knew was good for them.
Dogs will eat horse droppings and people stop them, but some of it is good for them. Another thing that is good for dogs is the horn that is trimmed off the hoof.
Why do we spend money with the herbal companies, because we are sorting out things that the animal whould sort out for themselves if the fields were left alone.
Herbs,Essential oils and Bach flowers remedies all natural have their part in modern horse / animal keeping.

Thankyou everyone. Tommy continues to do well. Hes been out for 3 walks today and it was nice to see him trotting along, dragging his owner from time to time. It was lovely in the sun at lunchtime, so she took him on a longer walk which he really seemed to enjoy. His leg is still filled in the mornings, but goes down really well after exercise. Hopefully vet will say he can be turned out again, but up to now all good. Pauline - his owner is going to ring Hilton Herbs tomorrow. Thanks

I thought I would ask again for healing as Tommy has had another setback today. Since I last posted, he has been turned out each morning with another old pony and coming in mid afternoon. His bad leg still 'fills' to some extent, but nowhere near what it was when he was down. He also has a tumour inside his sheath, which has grown and also a sarcoid just infront of his sheath, that bleeds. These cant be treated, its just a case of tring to keep the area clean. Most of the time he has been his usual bright self, eating etc - even running at the stable door and bucking around the stable some mornings , in a rush to get out. His owner has said that she is fighting a losing battle and can only do so much to manage his problems. However, today he was down again in the field. We guess for possibly 1 hour before he was found. His owner came out of work, calling the vet on the way and more or less preparing for the worst as she had sort of decided if he was down not to let the vet get him up. When she got there, she said he did look pathetic and didnt really try to get him up. But then he got up by himself! Once he was up he relieved himself and walked in as if nothing had happened. Vet arrived. Owner now thinking hes up, he looks fine - vet gave him antibiotics and painkillers. Tommy was then really alert, not sure if some sort of adrenaline rush, but he looked really hyper. Seemed to settle a bit and ate haylage. Not eaten his tea (with drugs in) when we left tonight. Vet is back on Monday but please send your good wishes and thoughts to him and his owner, who I know is struggling with the decisions she has to make.

It sounds to me as though Tommy will make the decision himself before too long - maybe almost did today then thought better of it. It will be hard for her, but not so hard if she thinks it is what Tommy wants - my old mare did and I just felt as though she had decided for me. Trust the horse and go with what he is asking.
