I have an idea to throw open to you lovely Essex peeps. One thing that seems to crop up over again is the lack of backup people have individually. For example, Bramblesmum might do with a hand ironing out some longlining issues, I have a friend (not a DGer, imagine!) who will be looking for support next year when she starts riding her newly backed pony, or someone might just want someone to walk along with them when doing something new.
What about if we formed an Essex (and Suffolk borders) support group, whereby we all got to know each other a little better and were here for one another on the ground. As back up, there are 2 students (Zoe from the DG and my friend Jo - also not a DGer, shocking!) who have done one or more courses, who would benefit from experience and who in return could cast an eye over problems that are cropping up. I would be here to support them, and ultimately the group.
It could also turn into a more social thing, but the main aim at the moment is that we're not all out there, feeling alone in our IH ways of doing things, when there are like minded people not terribly far from each other. IH back scratching.
What do you think?
ETA: this isn't, by the way, a way of dealing with problems that should be addressed by an RA, more a way of keeping things ticking over.

Do you know what I was looking through the DG today thinking how nice it would be if we had something in Essex like they do in some of the other counties.. I'd LOVE to meet other like minded people in Essex.
Sometimes I think I struggle a bit because people 'pretend' to listen to me about my IH ideas, but no one on our yard really has the patience with their horses, so I end up getting frustrated and feeling lonely like you said Liz.
LizP I'm SO SO SO interested so count me in! And let me know if there is anything I can do to help set it up? As Shelly2 said if I can repay a favour that has made such a huge difference to me then I would be more than happy!
Ooo I'm all excited!

I am a DGer Liz!! Just don't have the time to do much DGing on here (too busy with the highlands!) Not surprisingly I'm definitely up for this, I think its a great idea. As I've already said to Liz, as a "single parent family" (bringing up the young ponies with non-horsey family) it would be brilliant to have someone likeminded to help out here and there. For me, I'd love support with someone to just walk out with in my attempts to introduce the young one to the traffic. And as Liz has given us such a good start I'd be more than willing to support others in their IH work. I'm on the Essex/Suffolk borders by the way. Go Liz!

Brilliant! Do you know, I think we're all going to be at Towerlands on Saturday, either helping or watching.
Ginny & Kate, you're really close to each other (Gt Yeldham & Sible Hedingham).
Skyesthelimit, there are a couple of people on here who are starting longlining. Maybe you could combine lending a hand with it and maybe have a go? No one's that close to you, but it could be fun from time to time. Is Braintree too far for you? If not, bramblesmum could be a good person to get in touch with as she's doing now what you'll be doing next year with Skye.
I'm hoping CG08 will join us soon, too.

my name metioned!!!
count me in i too could use a bit of practical advice form the other side of the fence as well, already ooffered to bm my help which still stands. ( i will send a text in a bit remind the brain) I am also off to towerlands on sat with the OH in hope that it can teach him a bit more so it can help me.
as a few of you know i am on my own yard with noone else about to help me and i have been on livery yards before but had the wrong type of help (if you know what i mean) i hate being bossed but wil accept constructive critiasism(like most) hence the reason for own yard which is perfect to a certain extent but i do get very lonely and with the OH best will in the world to help me he can be a little harder to explain things to than the horse i am working with.
maybe we could have a meet up and play as a group. could poss hold at mine, as i have the room for a small group and excellent hacking off road

bit of a strange story to this kate as his feet are improving on the vits and minerals that i put him on (proab somthing to do with diet ) any way i did cancel for a moment as i need to give the theory a go that i have in my head. his frogs are now harding and now looking like a heathly frog and started him on the thrush magic stuff from the us and we are now looking like progress is happening. i have my farrier coming out to do romeo this friday so i will get him to trim aswell, he is a different one to who i usally have (as given up on the other one as never returned a phonecall) it will be his third dose tommorrow of the thrush magic so fingercrossed. the pony in himself looks a lot better and the frogs are becoming harder from the inside out this time. hopefully the wet weather wont destory my theory !! As i got him from travellers the mare was constanly been put into foal all tht time with no breack for years and when heleft her she was pregannt with twins so this must have done somthing to her milk or even when he was in the womb as the 2 she was pregnant with was taking everything and probably only leaving traces of the stuff he needed to grow properally and the mare was not fed to boost any levels up just left out to graze this must of had an impact on both foal, fetus and her. sadly to say i did find out that both foals had died which was assumed anyway that one would survive, the mares information was undisclosed and is not known i got blanked when i asked how she was. so i am under the assumption she did not do too well either and the foal we have was her last.
just by talking to people on here has help me see another route that i might not have seen before, so hopefully if we can all meet up or help each other out a bit in the future as liz plans then it will deffiently work out for the better.
