Ha ha thanks Clarea, I just an image in my head of a cattle branding! I do like the sound of it on her bottom, she has a very long mane now and to be honest when she has her head down you can't really see her shoulders - SO - thanks to this post, she'll be freezemarked and chipped, with the mark on her bottom (bless her!) - last thing to organise is WHAT to put, her short name is SKYE, should I put that? I'm gonna pop on the freezemark website to see what I can find out about the numbers / markings x x
All your help has stopped me worrying (which I do alot!) xx

LOL, you can't be as worried as I was!! One thing, if you get it done her bum then whoever you use will probably want you to have her sedated. My boy was sedated (he would have been wherever he had the freezemark though as he is a fidget) and it was just as well. There is no way on this earth he would have let them do it otherwise! x

Oh really, I was just looking at that on the website? It says with white hair they have to hold the brand (??) on for more than 45 seconds! She'll definately move, especially as they'll be putting pressure on her bum and I've taught her to move away from pressure (doh!). xx

They do hold the brand on for what seems like ages. On your sig it looks like she has a brown patch on her bum? It would be better to have it there than on a white bit as it will be more visible and they won't have to hold the brand on for as long. They do put a lot of pressure on when they press it on the skin too. If I had to have it done again I would have the horse sedated anyway just to be on the safeside (and also I think it must be a bit painful whatever anyone says!!!)

It looks like she has brown patch on her bum? acnt it go there.. Flynn is grey and was fine. Horses are actuially animals that move INTO pressure it is their defence mechanisum. You can practice holding something on her. or how about using the clicker and do it..
Freezemark use 3 digits I think.. and it cost more to have your own choice just so you know

Yeah I was just looking on the website and there was a horse with a small brown patch that had it there, so I'm going to give her a good look over tonight to see what patches could be done! She hasn't got alot of brown or black on her to be honest! You see on her picture, the brown bit is on her flank (which I'm assuming can't be used?) and the tip of her bum, do you think they'll fit it on there?
I'm going to sedate her now you've said that I think, just for peace of mind! xx

I dont see why not on hind end by her tail as I see it in her picture.. if sedation makes youb feel happier and then you know it can be held there as long as it is needed. Use some aloe vera gel on afterwards to keep cooler and healing properties.. and some arnica tablets !

They could do it on her flank if you wanted ( at least I have seen horses with FM's on their flanks).x

I had 8 done recently. One of them I had sedated as I knew she'd react. It was very stress free with her sedated. She snored away quietly and whinnied at everyone when she came round! The others were done without sedation. Two were youngsters and they moved and fidgeted but we got them done. The other 5 weren't bothered. They were able to walk round in a circle while the mark was held in place and the technician moved round with them. Some of them felt the need to move and some didn't. I had them all done on the shoulder. Two were grey so had to have a bald mark with the irons held on for quite some time but neither of them were bothered.
I've had personalised freezemarks done in the past but most of the obvious ones are already used so if you go for that option have some backups!
