Finally I got a day off where it wasn't blowing a howling gale with driving rain or I had a million things to do....so we got Duke, Sam and Jubilee in from the field and decided to go for a walk.
Stan led Sam, Garry led Jubilee and I rode Duke. We only went round the block at walk with a little trot for me on the way home. All 3 were fantastically behaved, despite a freezing drizzle and wind.
Duke spooked at a few things, man shutting the car door, stupid woman tooting her horn, but the extent of his spook was a little sideways jump and planting for a millisecond before proceeding so I'm thrilled with him. He stopped when I asked him, even when the others carried on, walked at the speed I wanted him too and really listened to me most of the time. It's all new for both of us and he was a star.
Sam was perfectly behaved after the first few minutes of pulling to get to the nearest green bit (grass is non existent in their winter paddock!). We are going to try ride and lead with Sam next time and Stan will longrein him when I go out too.
Jubilee was plodding on in her own merry way, she just does her own thing normally but had to behave as she is in training for the new Grandson to ride!
I loved it and I know Liz will be pleased to hear that all is going so well.
Off to wade through the mud now to turn them out!

No pics today as digital camera is at work. But I will get some next time (don't know when that'll be but soon I hope).
I'm going to be doing lots of groundwork with Duke until the weather is better. I'm still not up to riding out on my own so will work him on longlines etc unless Garry is available to hack out.

I'm so glad all went well for your first proper ride, Diane, and look forward to seeing you in action before too long. I'll ring soon.

Its really great to hear it all going well (even the little minx! ) I know all who know you and the horses will be really proud of this achievement and am so glad that Duke is giving you your confidence back. There'll be no stopping you now

Thanks for the comments. Duke is in work, just not with me. James rides him as I am so busy with the shop and it's dark when I'm home.
As far as I'm concerned, all that is important is that the horses are happy and healthy and well cared for.....and they all are.
