Are you talking about the TS balancer or Comprehensive supp? I feed TS Comprehensive supp and TS Calmer, oldie has TS 10 10. Haven't had any probs with this.
What do you think is causing the prob? Is it the the corn or whatever is in the balancer or the ingredients in the supp? They put the Comprehensive supp in the balancer don't they?

Hi, its the Balancer. TBH i don't no whats causing it as its supposed to be non heating & its only my WB thats effected. My TB & IDxTB are fine. My WB has Mag Ox & was on Mag before i started with Topspec, I'm thinking of swapping him to SS Lunar Eclipse but he already gets a small amount of Linseed & Mag so maybe there's no point as theres only Bvits missing. The Nestler's solid gold sound good but i have no local suppliers of it, & I'm no dubious of feeding him any thing similar to Topspec. Has anyone Tried that new service from Feedmark called Forte apparently they tailor the Vit/Mins to your horse expensive though?? Any good?? I was starting to think i was the only one suffering problems.

I only feed SS feeds because i have a Distributor in my area he's brilliant i order what i like & he delivers free of charge. I really have noticed a difference with SS feeds this winter ( my 1st winter on SS) all my horses are well and up to weight with out any problems.

I fed mine on the Comprehensive without any hooligan problems, though he did have worse digital pulses on it than off it. The Balancer was what caused the worst physical and psychological problems. In our case I think it was because: a. It's 13% sugar and starches, and while that is fairly low really, I have a low-grade laminitic who will go lame on hay at 7.5% sugars. So far too much for him, even though 500g only provided 60g or so of sugar, which was split into three feeds at 6 hourly intervals. b. Mineral balances--excesses of some minerals inhibit a horse's ability to absorb magnesium, and laminitis/stressy behaviour etc are all part and parcel of magnesium deficiency. It think this is mainly JJ's problem with the TS to be honest, even though he was being fed a lot of Mag Ox at the same time. Pity--he really liked it!!!!

One of mine is suspected of being even more of an ASBO-pony than usual on it. Obnoxiousness and sh*t-stirring decreased when I stopped it so put her back on it now to make really sure that it was the TS causing problems and not just a co-incidence that she was less of a brat when I stopped it. Other one is also possibly slightly more obnoxious since having it but much more subtle so when current bag is finished I'm going to stop giving it to her to see what happens as well.

I have been using Top Spec for 9 months and my lad who is usually sane and sensible has become spooky and strong, didnt think it could be the TS until i read the other thread, so have stopped it now , unfortunatly i havnt been able to ride him yet as he did a nasty over -reach a couple of weeks ago being stupid in the field (something else he never used to do ) Trouble is i have 3 bags of Liesuretime Balancer spare now as they have been £5 off so i thought i would get a stock in !!! ( i do have a couple of others i can use it on ). I will be putting my lad on Equivite i think , thats what he used to have

my girl is better now she's off the leisuretime, and on half rations of anti=lam, with ts calmer and oestress. I threw lots at the problem as couldnt cope with being bitten! not been caught out for a week, and she's down to threats rather than sharp bites!

This is a really interesting thread as Floyd is usally fed Top Spec Anti Lam which he is fine on. Feed Merchants didn't have Anti Lam a couple of weeks ago so I got Top Spec Balancer instead. For the past week or so he's been really grumpy and nippy! He's fit and well in all other respects so I guess it could well be the difference in the feed!

OMG Finn, just when I thought I was starting to understand laminitis!
Explain to me again - stiffness as a result of toxin build up, right? Like what happens in the feet when they get lami?
Thanks, sorry I am such a dunce.

I'm beginning to think I'm not dealing with laminitis, to be honest--because he gets different symptoms with different unsuitable feeds!!!!! Excess carrots and grass and obviously sugary stuff lead to sore forefeet, difficulty turning, etc but not necessarily any pulses. Hay, haylage, TopSpec gave us stiff hind hindquarters, mild stomach upsets, evil behaviour and finally all round lameness with erratic pulses.
What we're wondering is if build up of toxins which cause laminitis or at least inflammation of the solar corium in the foot don't also affect other body tissues, like muscles in the hindquarters and neck....a sort of mild form of tying up I suppose.
It would make sense I suppose--it's definately a pattern I'm seing in my own (awkward) horse:(

Blimey, poor you Finn! It's a nightmare isn't it!
Floyd had a bad bout of laminitis in June so on taking advice from Jackie A Taylor, is fed:
Morning:
Right amount of Top Spec Anti-Lam (as per recommendation) Scoop of Hilton Herbs Purify mix Teaspoonful of Mag Ox Grab of Happy Hoof (to mix up the supplements)
Evening:
Top Spec Scoop of Purify mix Scoop of Cortaflex HA Grab of Happy Hoof (to mix supplement)
8lb of very well soaked hay overnight.
TOUCH WOOD, he seems to be doing fine on this little combination but as I say, he's a little begger at the moment and I'm sure it's because he's on Balancer rather than Anti-Lam! Trouble is Top Spec is too expensive to just stop using the Balancer!
I give him Cortaflex as he too goes through phases of being very stiff behind though he hasn't had any pulses since recovering from Laminitis.
Flippin horses are a constant worry aren't they!

Lesley from Kent, does Cortaflex have Glucosamine in it? Glucosamine is contraindicated for horses prone to laminitis.
