Had farrier out today to look at one of my horses feet because one of his back frogs has came away from his foot and just hanging. My farrier has trimmed the frog off but now there is just flesh and bleeding. I have washed with iodine and put a pad on with a vet wrap..
What should i do? I've never had this problem before

That's a bad case of thrush! I would tub twice daily with quite hot water with a good handful of salt added and dry dress in-between. Continue until it looks clean, then give a good dousing with a sheep foot rot spray, or Debrisol, or an antibiotic spray if you can get one (do they still DO the Terramycin sprays for foot rot??) Better still, speak to your vet. There is quite a serious risk of infection getting in and travelling up the leg - systemic antibiotics MIGHT be indicated. Obviously it will have to be kept clean and dry.

The bleeding shouldn't be going on too long. What was your farriers advice? Is he stabled? Are you able to keep it clean? Treat like a wound at this point.

you can get terramycin (sp?) from the vets - it's a purple spray and worked wonders with my ponys feet.

Teramycin is good, but dont get the purple spray from the tack shop/farm shop its not teramycin and its rubbish! only vets can sell teramycin as its prescription only. Glad to hear its clearing up!
