its a bit like how long is a piece if string. depends on how much grass you have and how many buckets you feed. I have 2 arabs and 2 little welsh ponies. i feed Lo-cal to 3 of them a bag lasts about 1 month. all together i buy 3 bags Lo_cal , 3 bags condition cubes and 2 or 3 bags kwik-beet and 1 bag Alfa-A for the whole of the winter.

I can' really help you Gem, i'm afraid. My feeds are shared up between all the horses and i know that i feed too much ! In fact i wonder how many people actually know or have worked out how many scoops there are in each bag of certain feeds ? Our hay bales which are about 8 - 10 sections last one day between 6 horses 'if' either of the boys are in 24/7 as they have been on and off during illness etc. Recently my vet told me that Sunny was overweight and insisted that when he was box rested i could only give one section in the day and one at night ? ! I always thought that they should creep feed something all the time so i worried about it for ages. In fact, he did loose weight and it was quite a learning curve for me that although he needed the food offered at regular times, he didn't actually need to be eating all day !

Gem, as you know I weigh all my feeds so I know exactly how long a bag of feed will last. That's how you could work it out----------everyone feeds different amounts, so only you can really tell.

Now you've got me thinking hon. I feed my two Hi-Fi, High Fibre cubes and linseed oil. Amounts do tend to vary depending on whether we are told to keep them in due to wet weather or they allowed out during the day. I'd say on average the Hi-Fi lasts me about 2-3 weeks and the high fibre nuts last about 10 days. Bearing in mind I'm feeding a 16.1h and a 16.3h.
Gem, we can sit down together when you are down and have a go at working out a budget for you, I think i need to do the same!

I think I may terrify myself at how much my two cost each month, but my New Year's resolution is actually to budget.

I have no idea how long the stuff I buy lasts, but I never get enough to last the winter, all I know is that I use about 3 bales of hay a week and about 3 bales of straw and 1 of shavings. Dont measure out my feed, do a rough amount mine only has ss grass nuts and luci stalks anyway, so doesnt matter if he gets more or less every day. Dont need a budget for him, he has his own bank account, (not in his name though) and I put money in it each month with builds up so its plenty for him over the year.

Gem,
Do the math! Work out how much *BY WEIGHT* you are going to feed per day - which is what you should be doing anyway!! - and divide the sack weight by the daily amount to get the number of days a sack will last.
Weigh your scoopfuls if you are going to feed by scoop - you only need to do it once.

i dare not add it up i reakon its costs me about £39 per week to feed 10,or it did the last time i worked it out, we make all of our own hay/haylage
