I am a FAL girl and have been for a while. I have just bought a horseware QH rug. (200g). its to replace the FAL 200g commander he currently has on. But i cannot believe how light it is and also how thin it feels compared to my FAL? they are both meant to be 200g but the horseware one feels so thin! My friend has a 350g amigo and that is the same. i think my new one is even lighter than my FAL 40g. So the question is.... why?! do horseware use really different materials etc? are they actually as warm? Next question... does anyone have a lightweight horseware rug? and what is it like? does it leak/make your horse sweat? i've had probs with different makes making my horse sweat in the sun or leaking in the rain, in the past and have never found anything to do the job properly until i bought a FAL 40g. however, i need a new one and wondered how the horseware ones measured up!? they are a bit cheaper than the FALs but didnt want to waste money on one to find its not very good!

I have a lightweight Horseware rug, no leaks, so sweats or anything. In fact I prefer horseware rugs to any other

we have horsewear everything!lol! Fal are good quality rugs but I dont feel that they have kept up with the latest technologies. The horsewear are much lighter than other rugs which I agree does seem rather odd when they sre categorised by weight??? Mastas are sooooo heavy I just hate them! ( wait till you have derugged 17 wet horses and hung them all in the rug room every night!) Sorry, bit OT there! The horsewear liteweights are fab, there is loads of choice, from the supremes right down to the amigos, which also come in 2 deniers! We have the whole range, and I would reccomend any of them, none have leaked and they dont sweat up unless it is baking.

i couldnt get over how light they were. must admit, makes handling them and storing them so much easier.

I love horseware rugs, mainly because they're the only make that fit my horse well. Never had any problems with my rugs either.

I have a combination of Horsewear, FAL, Shires and Mark Todd. All do the job, horses warm and dry, owners happy

I'm a FAL girl through and through, I just found that the Horseware rugs were not big enough round the shoulders for my two. Agree with you re Masta rugs, Sarah. I just found when they got wet they weighed a tonne and took forever to dry out. Another make I'd like to try are Bucas, heard good things about them.

I'm another FAL girl through and through like Roz. They fit my chunky monkeys really well. I did get a Bucas MW for Clover at YHL as her MW Fal doesn't have a hood. It was a superb quality rug - but the hood actually came down so low it covered her eyes LOL! We tried it on several horses at the yard and the one it fitted best was a lovely long TB - so her owner bought if off of me thankfully.

No problem Helen. I have to say that I absolutely LOVED the front closure part of the Bucas, really love the padded effect etc. But will be staying with my FAL's from now on, as my two chunkies have pretty short necks... Can definitely see why you love the Bucas ones though.

i found FALs good for the chunksters. always fit my welsh cob well. i have a viking MW and LW and also had a viking LW for my really chunky welsh D - as it was the only thing to fit him.
however, my commander isnt the same fit. it just isnt as roomy despite being the same size. my viking is quit roomy now on the welshie because hes lost muscle/weight due to being out of work. but i've put the commander on him now MB ha a new rambo QH rug and it fits him but only just, and if well muscled - i doubt it would. i'd also struggle to get the under rug part of it on underneath.
it definitely didnt fit MB though although i know many rugs dont fit QH types but FALs are normally roomy. he would need a size up i reckon, at least. and even then - not sure it'd fit. if i dont get a LW horseware rug i was looking at a FAL chieften as they arent too expensive.

I always get a size up in horsewear anyway,my 13.2 highland is actually in a 6'! I have found they still fit the chunky ones but you need the extra length to give the width, they dont hang over the bum still, just cover it nicely with perhaps an extra inch or so. The highland is only in a lightweight before I get shot down in flames!lol!

We have the QH rugs and they are fabulous. They seem pretty warm even tho they're quite thin, and they're definately very waterproof (even JJ goes out in the rain if he's wearing it). He's lost so much weight though it's hanging off him We did find that the closed front stable rug made a pretty good under rug--that was very toasty indeed when it was freezing here ETA--there is actually a QH shaped rain sheet....haven't seen it in GB yet but it's definately on the Rambo QH website!
