I've got a tb x who is a poor doer. He was doing fine weight wise until we had the cold snap and then lost weight. He had been on one feed a day but was upped to two before it turned cold.
He was out 24-7 but has started coming in at night. He has adlib hay and is fed speedi-beet, happy hoof, spillars conditioning fibre and spillars cool fibre which includes magnesium.
Is there anything else i could be feeding him to help put the weight back on?

8-)ps, why are you feeding Happy hoof----------------that is not designed to put weight on, it's designed to keep it off.

Thanks for that. I'll have a look for some baileys at the feed shop. He's always had happy hoof, he was fed it when i bought him. He only gets it really to bulk his feed out, its not the main part of his feed. I've tried hi-fi and alfa-a but he won't eat them so i went back to happy hoof.

If you can get hold of it, try Bailey's Outshine. It's an oil-based feed so adds calories without the fizz. And, as a bonus, your horse will look incredibly shiney.

I'll have a look at that too, thanks gemma. Do you use the powdered version? Thats what they sell in our local feed merchant. I'll ask them if they can get hold of the pelletted version.

Spiller's do a Conditioning Fibre now which is excellent for weight gain or keeping condition i have my TB on it & I'm very impressed with it. He also gets Dodson & Horrell Build up as well during the winter & Purabeet.

I use the pelleted version. Marigold LOVES it so I use it for treats if doing groundwork.

You could also try adding some oil to his feed. When Lady was underweight in the spring I added linseed oil to her feed and it put weight on and added a great shine to her coat.

Baileys Top Line cubes------better than anything else I've ever come acrross, and totally non heating. Echo this. A balencer like TopSpec or Blue Chip can really help with some horses to.

I would swop the happy hoof for alfa and feed with lots of unmolassed beet, grass nuts and instant linseed. Not saying thats any better than anything else, but it works for us!
