She IS my baby! One of my first! Out of a mare I bought - originally as a hunt horse but she put our huntsman in hospital (he deserved it!) - and by my stallion - and I've been there for every important moment in her life. I was holding the stallion when she was conceived, I was the first to see and touch her, the first to get on her, the first to take her for her first SOLO hack (yesterday, in gale force winds!!) - and today she was sold to the nicest possible owner! I'm sad (she's a stunning little horse to ride - kind, bold, responsive and totally wonderful) but I'm happy too - because I KNOW her new owner will love her at LEAST as much as I do - and she'll get the one-to-one love and attention she deserves. And she's a job well done! This is her on her 2nd day ridden (not me - that's my little Froggy rider - he 'sticks' better than I do - although she was good as gold to back.) For all the risk, the heart-ache, the work, the expense ... this is what being a breeder is all about!

Aww she's gorgeous, I bet the new owner's are thrilled to bits to have bought such a super, unspoilt horse with all the history intact!

Saw this on SU Janet. It is lovely to see how excited her new owner is - and what a proud "mum" you are for what you have achieved for this very special baby. As you say it is what breeding is all about - or most certainly what it SHOULD be about, but sadly doesn't always happen that way.
Hope that Brooklet settles really well in her new home.

Good for you Janet. When I started breeding, everyone said " you'll never sell them! but I do. Admittedly I usually decide who should buy them and then persuade them that they had the idea in the first place, thereby ensuring the best home possible, and when I say goodbye to them, I may still shed a tear. But I know they go off with the best education I can give them, and all my owners keep in touch with their progress. I get so much pleasure from seeing them being successful in the show ring, and it makes it easier for me as I can no longer show at all. You are right, that's what breeding is about. I would however point out that none of my 3 remaining girls will ever be sold lol

although I dont breed horses anymore I used to, and sold every one I ever bred. The look of delight on the buyers faces is lovely to see.

Little Kanuthi went to his new home yesterday. He was such a good boy to load and went to join his new friends without looking back. So so hard for me though. His Auntie Nelly and Xefi the Lusitana both miss him.

Whatever is wrong with Brown, Jen Brown is my favourite colour, and the most popular in the show ring by far

I would be so absolutely useless,I couldnt possibly sell! I just had the most moving and wonderful letter from the owners of the horse that I am buying, she clearly has become very attached to her baby, and I felt so privileged to have her trust as his new mummy!
