In that case then your boy has no passport and the transporter used the passport of another horse to get him into England. If you paid the transporter by credit card go back to your card provider and try to reclaim the costs of the Health papers etc as this work was not done nor a requirement for Importation. Basically fraud.

you should but i didn't get one i take it you have got one now though coz you would not be allowed to sell him with out one,i got mine from the horse passport agency.i would speak with the transporter and find out what happened to the receipt though coz he should have given you that how did you pay for the horse? i gave the driver the money when they dropped bailey off. have you tried calling the vet that put the chip in to see if they have anymore details they may have as it would have only been a few months ago.

This scares me to death. Horses from overseas coming in on false passports without proper checks. This was not properly researched. The importation of animals is regulated for a reason.

God Shelley... who would be in trouble if DEFRA called round? They would say the don't have time is no excuse in Law. Also, if the transporters were perpared to lie about that.... I have to say I can't read french, and I would not have known. If I had been given a document in French and told it was a passport I would have believed it too. You could all be prosecuted.

It makes me laugh some people on here the way they judge me due to my age what is the funniest part though is I worked my arse off to save Reole I have a sunday afternoon off now and work (inc school) more hours than my mum. My horses are all 100% healthy and happy, the mare I have saved has come on so much- more actually than some of those rescued by adults! so haha learn wisdom from the wise not the old.
That being said I receive your concerns and thank those of you who offered support- this is now fortunately not needed.
I put a plea on another forum and on there I stated any moneys donated would be returned by the end of September, and no she would not have been resold, a friend has offered a horse or donkey a life long home where they would have an easy life and lots of love. This was no scam.
de80 the transport for Reole was £410 so you can eat your hat now. I would like a video please ;D

i recieved an invoice form the transporter which is on his headed paper saying fyord foal and price , blanket spot and price and transport price, but not a receipt from the farmer - i really didnt get anything - originaly with regards to the blanket spot i was told the farmer still had the paperwork and he would forward it to me when he recieved it. He also told me he had to keep the vet check papers for his business - ah yes - thats what he said, he had to keep the vet check paperwork which i thought was odd, as why would he need it, but at the time didnt question it. I then went back to make sure i was 100% sure that the foal had not come from france and was definatly advertised from his yard, and then i started queriying things -
I still have no paperwork for beau.... proberly because there is none..

It also scares me how apparently lax the need for paperwork or otherwise is that stolen horses from the UK could "disappear" on the Continent. And end up undertaking the horrific journeys these French horses were being rescued from. And yes I have signed the ILPH petition.
I agree with Jackie, this scares me to death, it really does.
Modified for typos.

jackie i must add that i made sure bailey had a passport to come into the uk with and that traveled with him.i was lucky enough to be living in france at the time i took bailey on so i had time to sort out his passport i would not have risked getting him to the uk without one and neither would i suggest anyone else to,what an earth would you do if the horse was stuck at the docks??? i believed it was down to the transporter to check the animal has a passport before they take it anywhere?

Yes it is down to the transporter to make sure he has a passport for each animal. IF stopped and checked we are liable to a fine of £2,000 per horse if there is no passport.
However, you were dealing with a less than scupuless transporter who had already lost his good repute with VOSA and been banned from running a Transport Firm so he just used the name of one of his drivers instead for the record. This transporter is also very thick with a certain lady in France, who is now moving to Portugal as things have got too hot for her in France (legally) which is also why some of you have received different horses from what you thought you were receiving. We have eventually got her banned from advertising in Yellow Free-ads etc.
