good luck!!! Get out your mars bars and try your hardest. But having watched two this year die of this, please be aware of when its time to say enough, and to let him go peacefully.

oh god lioness i can only imagine what you must be going through right now, please hang in there. I've heard great things about Ian Day so lets pray he can help your boy. I agree with the music idea, in fact make as much noise as possible, try anything to stop him from seeping into a depression. When we had the horse in at the vet clinic it was at the same time as the carpenter was in making some new doors etc for the treatment room, he was there for 2 days and was using electric saws and drills etc. I was really worried at first because i thought it would frighten the poor horse, but instead it really helped and he became much more alert and began eating. May have been a coincidence but it's worth trying everything

Sounds like you should put a post up for the attention of Jackie Taylor. She's pretty much the expert on laminitis.

Matter of Principle are you sure the GS diagnosis is correct, sorry to doubt you, but it is highly unlikely that a GS case would consume enough haylage to bring on lammie. It is a struggle to get them to eat anything. If your horse is eating as opposed to an infrequent nibble, GS doesn't sound likely, particularly within a timescale of two weeks. What other symptons does it have ?

Its not just been haylage shes been on, shes also been on (hot soups) basically hi-fibre cubes soaked/blue chip soaked, alfalfa pellets soaked.. Pretty sure, as another horse was PTS a few weeks prior with Acute GS. She had to gut sounds, her heart rate was varying from 42 most of the time, but it did go up to 72 and 56 at the worst points, she lay down didnt get back up for a while, couldnt do the toilet, had that rectal thing done.. Pretty sure to be honest. But have taken onboard what you have said. Thanks

My vet did say that laminitis is a secondary problem with C-GS, as they are fed much more protein that they would be usually. It does sound like GS to me I'm afraid, I suggest you contact Joyce at GrassSickness.org in Edinburgh on the phone and talk through things with her. I am at 5 weeks now, and am as desperate as I was at 5 days, things change from day to day and you never know what to expect. For the lack of poop we are usung enemas from the vet, and the gut sounds improve with movement, so walking and lots of it, even though it looks like they are not going to be able to do it. I've had to almost carry my boy on my back to get him into his stable again. Keep her interested and if she lays down to give up, lay down beside her and sing, chat or whatever you want to do, just let her know no matter how sh## she feels you are all there for her, keep her interested and active. No moping or crying, positive all the time, happy faces and smiles and happy chat !!!! Try liquidizing carrot, apples etc into a soup, this does work with my boy, mixed with his feed he does ok on it, otherwise, just syringe her probiotics, electrolytes, vitamins and mineral straight down her throat to make sure she it getting something...... My boys heart rate went up to 80+, and the sweating, shaking, depression are terrible. Suggest you keep a journal of what you are feeding and doing everyday, I am, and can only hope that it will help anyother horse some day..... DO NOT GIVE UP!!!! L

Lioness - where are you? Can send some distance healing, (and to the other poorly horse), but maybe we have someone close enough to visit. I will for free if you are Kent/Essex/E Sussex sort of area. You never know, it's worth trying anything!

Hi Guys, Had the Holistic Vet Chris Day yesterday, he did some acupuncture and gave us advise on feeding etc. Also contacted a Charlotte Watt in Scotland who does distant Reiki and she agreed to work with him this week. However, he was very, very poorly today, he looks like a little old man, he's only 3 We gave him all the cuddles and care we could and he picked up a little this afternoon. So, after almost 6 weeks of tlc+++ I am still not sure whether he can hang on anymore. I have kept a journal and taken some photos, if someone can post any for me (can't work it out) then you can see who I am talking about. Any positive thought anyone can spare, we could sure use them this way please...... thanks for thinking of us.... L

Im really glad you have kept a journal, maybe the grass sickness fund would be intrested in putting it on their site, whatver the outcome, it may help other owners. Hope your boy is clinging on! good luck and best wishes.

Glad your lad is hanging on, fingers crossed, you have done so well to get this far, hopefully you will turn the corner shortly.
Thinking of you, I know how tiring it is and exhausting both phsycally and emotionally, it is a very draining experience.
Try to take care of yourself as well.

Lioness I haven't got the hang of posting photos but please email me one at karenandfireAThotmail.com. It helps me send healing. Healing gives what the "higher self" needs - so that's not always a cure, but can be an easing of the soul, help with stress etc. If you understand me - whatever is happening I know it can only do good. Will send some anyway, but for me a photo helps and it feels easier.
