He's had a bad couple of days unfortunately, his gut actions are so slow or non existent he has been colickinhg badly every day. We got an enema from the vet and that helped with the poops, but he is getting more depressed. The light is going out in his eyes and I don't know what else to do. Anyone know of an equine holstic vet ? someone suggested acupuncture ? I wish this vile disease could be cured, it is horrific to watch a pony slowly die this way....... L

Sorry to hear this Lioness, I was so hoping that you'd have good news to post.
I don't know of an equine holistic vet but on another thread (Dilema - what to do now?) jinks mentioned a homeopathic vet called Chris Day. Maybe if you PM'd her she could send you his contact details, even if he can't help he may know someone who could.
Thinking of you both.
Love Naria

Lioness I hope you don't mind but I've started a thread asking for details of an holistic vet for you, see "holistic vet wanted". If you'd rather I didn't then let me know & I'll get it deleted.

Hi, only just seen your thread. Hope your pony is still hanging on in there. My friends horse went down with chronic grass sickness this time last year, it was a horrendous experience for my friend to see him suffer so, he got so bad that the vet was close to insisting on puttin ghim down but my friend never lost hope. She sat with him in his stable from 8am till long after dark, only leaving him once for lunch and tried to encourage him to eat (he ate a lot of mars bars in the worst times as that is all she could get him to eat!), grooming him and chatting to him. Slowly the spark came baxk in his eye and he started to pull through. I know some horses cannot be saved, but please do not give up hope it is never impossible. If my friend had given in and had her horse pts then he would not be here today, a happy horse who is beginning to get back to his normal activities and life he previously enjoyed. I will keep all my fingers crossed for your pony, this is a horrendous thing for you to have to go through... keep strong.

Thankls guys, he is still very poorly and not eating. I managed to get an appointment with one of the Holistic vets that Naria very kindlay did for me, Ian Day in Oxford I think it was, he can't come till next Tuesday, so we are hoping he can gett through the weekend, and see what happens. I think the normal vets can't help me anymore, ad I am at a loss as to what else to do with him. Mars bars may be on the menu though !! Thanks guys L

You might well find Bachs Rescue Remedy helpful. Scale up the dose and put it on his tongue. Try anything which tempts him into nibbling even if it's just a little, and be with him as much as possible, company is so very important especially during the night. Music even when you are not there, anything so that he does not feel alone. If you have friends who would like to help and would be prepared to spend a few moments with him, draw up a roster. It can be done, some do survive. Good luck.
