Whispering Back - Nicole Golding & Adam Goodfellow ISBN 009189544-8 Just thought I'd start the book club off as there don't seem to have been any other posters so far Whispering Back is a wonderful book, I just couldn't put it down. It moved me to tears in parts and filled me with joy and inspiration in others. It tells the story of Nicole and Adam's journey through horse ownership to horse training. I particularly loved the story of Misty the wild and terrified Welsh Mountain Pony, but all the other horses that feature in the book had equally interesting or touching stories. The humans featured are equally as endearing! I'm sure loads of you will have already read this book but if you haven't make sure you do, you'll love it ;D

I would also recommend this book. I loaned it to my Mum and she's now read it twice!
It's not a how to book, although you may pick up some tips, but the trials and tribulations of their journey to make a life with horses is worth reading whether you want to do the same or not.

Ahhh, how lovely that this is the first book on the new board It is indeed a wonderful book by two wonderful people, great present for anyone, horsey or not. I think there may someday be a sequel, but at the moment they are busy being a fabulous mum and dad to baby Marley. Annabelle x

Agree it's not a manual of how to - more likely 'how not to' to do some things I remember! - but it is inspirational. Made me want to find out more about, now was it Lucy Rees, who was Nicoles inspiration? Sorry it's a few years since I read it.

It was my first sort of IH book, really inspiring I must say. It was quite a few years ago when I read it, but in the first chapter there was the story of the horse who wouldnt walk through th puddle. For lengthly reasons I wont go on about, I decided after reading this book to go on the five day course. I love the bit about the rotting veg from their allotment hanging about their flat....genius!

I've read this book at least 4 times - but it's really great for me as I ride past the fields where they first had Sensi and Misty and the others in Milton Keynes and Nicole and I used to ride together at the conventional riding school where she used to help - a long time ago now!!
The Japanese School where Adam taught has been pulled down and a Retirement Village has gone up in it's place - I ride past there to:-)
Yes rj it was Lucy Rees - and then she actually met Lucy on the 10 week course - where Lucy met Monty as well:-)
Great book - and good to see it in the membership packs now if you join the IH association at Demos!

I've just finished reading it and it made me laugh and cry too! I've been on their website a few times and bought the book on the foundation course a fortnight ago and Nicole signed it for me ;D Nicole really helped me with my riding position on the ridden assessment, don't get back pain anymore from realising I don't have to 'sit up straight and shoulders back' There's a lot of very useful info in the book about starting up a yard and starting/rehabilitating horses. Very inspiring
