Pink Pony, have you got The Nature of Horses by Stephen Budiansky? It deals with a lot of psychology as well as some fascinating stuff about how horses evolved and how humans moulded them (and basically saved them from extinction) by domesticating them. i've just finished it and I'd recommend it to anyone.
Rosi, I've never brought on a youngster, but was considering it once and read the Richard Maxwell book - it's very practical and encouraging so a good place to start. I also picked up 'From Paddock to Saddle' by Elwyn Hartley Edwards in a charity shop (I'm addicted to charity shop bookshelves) which he wrote in the 1970s and is obviously out of print (just checked and you can get it for 65p on amazon so it must be good!). it's all a bit out of date I expect, but I do like Edwards' no-nonsense style. for that price, worth a punt I reckon and I particularly enjoyed the pictures of people in flat caps and lumpy pre-lycra jodhpurs.

Bugga!!! I was going to say that!!! Vic, hit me with one more pea and I swear you'll be wearing that peashooter!!!! ;D ;D ;D Right having successfully ditched the boring DK book, I need something else. I don't want a clever book though-I had to do a battle of wits with a half wit today and my brain now hurts thinking down to his level!!! Dr Seuss I think (walks off muttering 'I am Sam, Sam I am, Do you like green eggs and ham?) ;D ;D

I like Dr Suess!!! Cat in the hat is my favourite but i think we might get laughed off the DG if we start reviewing Dr Suess!! Oh oh oh, i have just thought of a serious question, is this bit just for horse books or is it for other books as well???
Try another DK book Geordie, i like 'The Sole Survivor' i quite liked 'The Taking' and 'The Face' but some of his others are crap, i think he is best when he does the fantasy type thrillers, he doesn't do the straight forward murder ones so well

I love Dean Koontz! Anyone tried 'Watchers'? I read it years ago and reread it from time to time in between all the horsey books! I always preferred Dean K to Stephen King although I haven't read any horror for a while. Too many horse books and not enough time!
Sorry, I'll close this big heavy door now and stop disturbing you all!

There not really horrors, these ones, more creepy supernatural thrillers. I don't do horrors

I want to read the 3rd installment of the Dean Koontz Frankinstein series if anyone has a copy? I have sole survivor somewhere along with lots of others.

I love Dean Koontz as well. Especially False Memory and From The Corner of his Eye - and the Odd Thomas books and oh well most of them... Carl Hiaasen wrote Sick Puppy - I've not read it but have some of his others. They are very funny. I like horrors too and love to read true crime books too. And Janet Evanovich is hilarious....
