I have never cleaned a sheath in over fifty years of responsibility for geldings. Read about smegma and circumcision in humans to find out why.
For me this is definitely one case of if it ain't broke don't try to fix it!
PS … I'll never look at Sarah Weston's Facebook photos whilst having breakfast again!

I have never cleaned a sheath in over fifty years of responsibility for geldings. I didn't like to admit it, but neither have I! However, my friend recommends covering the dangly bit with vaseline, (best done on a warm day after a relaxing grooming ), and hey presto, next day all the smegma has gone.
