Lorraine, don't worry about it unless you're planning about moving to France :-) It doesn't affect the UK (yet?)
Ted, I thought it was the end of 2007?

Only passing on the info from my vet . There were various deadlines dependant on the use of the horse (competitions etc) . The final limit though for everything is 2008 . Three of ours need doing and will be done next June when they have their annual vet check .

This is what the Haras Nationaux have to say on the subject. Are you sure when your vet talks about 2008, he doesn't mean 1st January 2008?

What happens if they're not? I have a friend with 3 horses and no money - I know they won't get chipped - and I'll only have mine done if the consequences are dire!

Gill , I think it is something which will , in the main , come to light when a vet sees the horse . If no chip then he will either not be able to treat the horse or - as is more likely - he will issue a demand that the horse be immediately chipped . This is a similar scenario to that of the issue of passports .
I'll recheck the deadline with my vet . However , the appointment for next June was made in June this year after he'd checked his reference book .

My vet (Chantilly area) confirmed all this and have just had my old man done, several people I know have old etired horses that never go anywhere and they were told that if their horse died then the body could not be picked up by the knckers men unless the body was ;icrochipped after death, I think they are all now going to get their oldies done as it is traumatic enough to loose them with out making it worse with all this. regards
