agree with sarah, great idea. totally natural for them and it sounds very nice, especially with their new rugs! bless them. have you got nice thick ones with necks for the horrid horrid weather?

Hiya, yea I think its best, there stables are there if the winter gets too much, but we'll give it a go and see how they get on... I got them Rambo, lightweight, middleweight and heavyweight... we're starting of with the lightweight cause our weather is really nice at the minute but it'll not be long before there into their middleweight I'd say a couple of weeks.. if it gets really bad in dec or jan I'll just bring them in again.. its hard to explain but the yo owns all the land on either side of the road and at the minute they are getting turned out on the side the stables are on, the yo house is on the other side and thats were they'd be going if they go onto grass livery, there are a couple others that stay out all year also.. there loads of land and trees more like a forest at the top of it.. its perfect for winter turnout.. only thing is.. its a bit of a dodgy road so it may not be realistic to bring them over every single day, I'm going back to work in a couple of weeks so it'll be getting dusk by the time I get home, so either early mornings over to them or straight after work, god I'm waffling on to yous, sorry.. this puts me off a bit.... on the dark nights the road is too dangerous to cross and quite a walk over to the yard.... but I can bring them over as often as poss and when I cant I'll spend time with them in the field feeding and grooming.. oh and I meant to say Sarah we lost out on the house, so back to reality again!! Anyway no matter what I'll do my best buy them, the vet will be pleased to hear Tilas out!!

hehe!! It did to me Tia! Well your other option would be to put headcollars on whilst they eat, that way you can make sure they get the right amounts and also you are catching them everyday, which will keep them tamer! Then just brush them off and maybe lead them around for a few minutes in the field,I only suggested bringing them in to do it as its nicer for you!I have 26 to groom and feed in the field everyday and would def prefer to do them in the stable! OMG!!! They are soooooo spoilt!! rambos are my favourite rugs! They are gonna be so cosy! Sorry to hear about the house, maybe it was not meant to be,perhaps there is something else just around the corner...

hehe ok here we go......have been talking/thinking about this all day long!!! and I've decided to leave them in!! lol.... my hubby (who is now emotionally involved with the horses, he loves them) and I have been talking and we have decided to leave them in until after Easter anyway, they go out all day long come in at night about 7 ish and that gives me time to groom, clean feet and just generally fuss over them... and I love doing that... i really wont be able to do that as much and as easily if there across the road.. The thing is, they are waiting for us every night, they walk over and practically put there heads into the headcollars, Rose is much better but still a very thin horse and Tila more than ever loves coming in, she is sooo gentle and kind and I love her so much I could sleep with her in that stable, Rose lies every night and has a sleep... I just cant do it!! not until the good weather is back anyway.... hubby is relieved too, hes really worried that Rose will lose condition after starting to come on so well and I tend to agree.... thanks for the advice, its great speaking to yous about this.. my yo is fantastic and completely supportive in whatever I do, she is a real star!

Haha! you do make me laugh,Tia!! The most pampered pones in N.I!! They'll be fine whatever you do,I'm sure, just go with whatever feels right and fits in with you, as long as Tilas copd is coping I'm sure whichever you do will be fine, mine wintered out for 3 years when we were sorting stabling out,now they are back to being in overnight all year, they are fine with either, tbh I do it more for my benefit than theirs.Tila and Rose will be on adlib hay no doubt so I cant see they will mind too much.I know they are not the most settled in their boxes yet,but like you say they are always waiting to come in.Actually as I recall Tila was fine anyway,it was just rose that was boxwalking a bit here, but she is a baby,so thats not unusual and I'm sure it will improve.

Thanks for that!! Its more about the setup than anything, if they are across the road in winter, its going to be difficult to get them over each day, and tbh Rose is really settling to the idea of being in at night, as long as shes got food shes not box walking and when the yo is checking in late on at night, shes lying down sleeping most nights, so surely she must be happy enough, Tila has rubber mats and the copd has eased off, shes having her lungs sounded next week again. I just like the idea of being up at night in the stables grooming and just generally being with them, I think as long as there out everyday all day, they should be fine.. last night they were waiting at the gate for me, I was a little later than usual, I know they are waiting for their supper but Tila I'm convinced appreciates a warm dry stable at night, and the constant handling surely must be good for Rose.. its funny though, horse people in general say if your not using them for riding put them out, I understand were they are coming from but I really don't agree and although turnout for me is essential, our winters can be harse and I'd hate to see Rose lose weight.... oh god I'm waffling to yous again!!! sorry girls but thats the way its gonna be...my horse friends over here think I'm a bit weird I think!!!
