How big is she? It is lovely to hear of how she is coming on. Just the tonic you need after losing your beloved Morse

Hi Sara, Yep I think she hs a kind face too, don't think I'm biased do you?!
Sixfootblonde, She is 16.2hh, you are right she is just the tonic I need! She is so lovely just still a bit skittish bless her heart. She has some old scars on her here and there and I am pretty sure she has been hit in the past because if you put your hand up a bit quick she really shies away and she looks scared! The farrier is coming this mornijng so I am just keeping my fingers crossed she will be ok with him as her feet are in desperate need of help and I think the state of them he will be a regular visitor.
Good luck with lady Guinivere she is lovely. Love to all

FLIPPIN HECK! We've had a bit of a setback today.
The farrier came this morning he was very good with her took his time letting her get to know him etc. He picked up her right front foot & gave it a bit of a clean but she wasn't having any of it, so he tried her left front, OMG! she hated it and pulled herself free and ran off over her field!!!!
She came over to me a few minutes later and let me remove her lead rein Thank god I was sooo worried she would trip over the flippin thing! The farrier was brilliant he just stroked her and tried to make friends however he told me we would be better to leave her for another couple of weeks to see if I can gain her trust that bit more so we can try again. Although he did comment that she clearly so wants to trust me as she came back over and even nuzzled me unfortunately her fear is stronger at the moment than her trust.
Feel so disappointed, NOT in Lancia poor baby (god knows what she has been though) just the situation because I had hoped she would be able to have her feet sorted and then she would feel better because they are in such a state!
Oh Well it's only the first setback we've had and she hasn't been here that long bless her. Just goes to show though that we have to take everything soooooooooo much slower than normal.
Still love her though and she has still let me love her and feed her this evening so can't be all bad.
Hope all the others are having a better time with their new charges than I had with my baby this morning. Love to all

What a great farrier you have Rita! Mine did Maybelline's feet and luckily she wasn't too bad, not scared just a little wary. He didn't even speak to her, reassure her, pat her or anything. Just did his 10 minute trim round and rasp. That is why I so want to find a good trimmer. I think your farrier is right in that Lancia needs more time to settle and lose her fear. It is great that she is coming back to you and learning to trust you so quickly. Take care and keep on with the updates, x x x

Have to agree with you Dizzy, he is great he didn't even charge me for coming out and wasting his time, all he asked was I could re-imburse his diesel NEXT time he comes! How good is that?! Glad to hear that Maybelline was ok with your farrier so at least she could have her feet done bless her. Can't believe your farrier didn't even speak to her! Perhaps I should send Lancia over to see him see how he reacts with one that size hee hee!!!!!!!!! Keep well and take care. Rxxx

Thanks Dizzy, Thats just what I thought although I am probably a bit biased!lol I just love her more and more just hope she is feeling the same.
Especially as we visited a local heavy horse farm (french owned and managed) were they work the horses on the farm and do displays during the summer months! We were told whilst there that out of the 800(approx) Percheron foals born this year that ONLY 10% will NOT end up as MEAT thats just 80 out of the 800!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG, my heart bleeds!

I think the new filly I committed to yesterday (and paid for today LOL) might be percheron or part percheron. Are they born black and go grey as they age? I hope she isn't too huge........ My heart bleeds for them too, I suspect the black filly was bred for meat, she surely can't have too much wrong with her (that they know about anyway) at 18 months old. Poor baby!

Oh err! Dizzy you naughty(good)girl, if she is you lucky girl! Yep they are born black and they can go grey and as they get older usually between 6-8yrs old they go lighter (in fact could go white!, French ones that is as they are not allowed in UK, only Black and Grey) The Black ones are absolutely gorgeous. They are known as gentle giants hopefully as yours is only young she should not hopfully have too many mental problems to overcome. She may get pretty big as the size of a Percheron mare should be no less than 16.1hh & 16-18cwts lol!!
Good luck let me know how you get on. Loads of love Rxxx

Lolly,
No don't worry they are not scars near her eyes just flippin flies(have tried all sorts of stuff but can't stop the flippin things) bless her! She does have some scars on her here and there and she had one on her face however that is healing really well. I know what you mean about keep looking at her piccies! I keep going outside or looking through my office window and just stand and watch her. She must be thinking what the h*** is that stupid woman doing!lol

Just had another look at the beautiful girl hehe! Flies are big pain (in ar*e) i have tried alsorts to keep them away, only spray i found that seemed to work is the herbal stuff, as soon as one fly went near Ruby it soon diverted to the opposite direction, lol
You maybe get different breeds of flies in France i dunno?

definately a big pain in the A***. Thing is she hates me putting anything on her, I've tried sprays - freaks her out, Roll on's - she just moves away in disgust, have even tried putting onto my hands then onto her and she still doesn't like it although the flamin flies seem to love everything I've tried. feel dreadful because my girl keep stamping trying to get rid of them and she has caught her leg with her hoof(because she wouldn't let the farrier do her feet they are still to long however he is coming back to try again!) What one do you use? worth a try although Lucy has told me which ones she uses over hee so have got to go and get some and try those however I will try as many as I have to t stop the flippin things.
My poor baby girl I feel so sorry for her.
