Hi:
A good leader doesn't need to DOMINATE.
First we have to listen then if we listen more we understand more and with horses we have to learn and understand more from them in order to gain their respect and confidence.
To improve our ability to listen with our eye's we have to practice listening with our ear's because listening itself is a hard work and needs practicing.
The 2nd step is to watch and watch carefully.
Video recording is a great help to watch what our horse is saying and to go over and over and learn . To learn we have to accept that our horse is telling us the truth , because sometimes they trick us for what they want us to do for them. Practice working with your horse and learn how they communicate with you and with one and other and practice their movements and behavior that you horse offers.
We have to Earn their Respect in doing so we lower the risk of accident and less accident more confidence , more communication less accident , more understanding our horses less accident .
Best wishes.

Ok, so your saying that all confidence issues boil down to whether our horses trust us or not?

Hi persianhorse, I've read your posts with interest and I think I understand what you're saying, however my major confidence issue comes from a lorry driver ploughing side on into us whilst I was riding my horse, so I'd just like to say that confidence issues aren't that clear cut, as having any amount of understanding and mutual confidence in my horse would not have prevented that driver from hitting us that day. I totally agree that to learn our horses language helps prevent accidents but sometimes things really are out of our control.

I do know that my horse and I are not confident together, yet with my trainer riding her she does not snort at things, or spend so much time avoiding obstacles. she still does it though, so from this I read that she has natural timidity, but I don't help!

Hi:
KTK : What I am saying is this , we are partners with each other , we have to respect one and other , we are the Coin one side is the horse and the other side is us. As long as we think that horses created for the reason of riding we get nowhere that is what I am saying.
Amarche : Yes some thing's are out of our control but with the help of our knowledge , trust , partnership , making good bound and spending a quality time with our horses we can bring the percentage down and our confidence up.
Nich : From what you are saying or shall I say from what I am understanding from your post is that your horse has more confidence on your trainer that on you , am I right?
Best wishes.
