Here goes! I can catch Blue all the time no probs I can groom/touch him all over I can tack up easily, he usually falls asleep! I can school him in the arena no worries, over poles etc I can hack out on the roads & off road in company I can loose school with voice/body language, change gait, stop, go over poles etc I can long line him I can walk him out on/off road in hand on our own no worries He's excellent with farrier/trimmer & vet I will be taking him & my OH's horse in the trailer to the beach/forest this year! I am hoping to hack out on our own by the end of the year!
Phew! It makes me realise how much I can do with Blue & has made me stop dwelling on the c**ts ;D

Great thread WR! ;D
I have been complimented on how well mannered my horse is whilst having very scary procedures at the vets All my horse/ponies now have excellent feet (its taken a lot of effort to get them all there believe me!) My horse trusts me in strange situations like loading. They all come to call, (they want to be with me!) again no tidbits.
I have no agenda with any of them, we take each relationship at face value and we work through the tough bits. (by this I mean an outside pressure to do this and that - by no means a reflection on anyone else except me!) I do what I want, when I want and push myself only when I feel I am strong enough to do it.
My horses are happy, I am happy

I have a lovely calm pony who is very forgiving of my lack of trust. I am gradually working out how to deal with my fears and making progress every time I ride. I have no problems handling him on the ground.

I can touch/groom my horse all over
He is good for the vet and the foot trimmer
He was good as gold for the dentist (we think it was his first time - age10!)
I can now mount without help (from the ground if needs be)
he is starting to trust me more and listen to me more (on the ground and ridden)
he is very funny ;D
I am pleased that I posted here coz I wasn't going to, because I couldn't think of anything.. Thanks WR for helping me see the good things instead of worrying about the bad ones...

Alright after having a bit of a setback tonight this is what i can do I can handle both my horses in the stable with no worries I can handle both my horses in the field if i need to Jim will stand nicely while in the field and have cream put on his sore chin and not clear off Tawny will wait by the gate in the school while i pick his feet out with no one holding him I can take Tawny out to dressage clinics and not embarass myself (much!!) I can sit Tawnys bucks he has decided he is going to do Both my horses will come to call because they want to Jim will come for itches and scratches because it is nice and not just for treats Tawnu will come for fuss , but i think he hopes there will be treats. Tawny will leads nicely even if a little stressed Jim will lead nicely most of the time unless really excited, but getting better I can pop over a pole on Tawny and not die of fright If pushed i can even hack out!!!
getting better all the time. Nic x

Ok, here goes, in regard to my youngster Wozzer, we have come a long way. When he arrived aged 10 months he nearly broke the stable at meal times, bit, kicked - you name it. He was just about halter broken, and in the past 12 months, with quiet perseverance I can/he can :-
lead quietly wherever I want, using the Dually be brushed anywhere and everywhere (including ears, etc) eat a bucket feed without freaking out is great for the farrier is great for the EDT is great for the vet is easy to worm
Following the recent visit of the marvellous Zoe RA, we can also now:-
not be mouthed/bitten at every flippin' opportunity ;D do the "L" exercise as per Kelly's book ;D ;D use pressure/release to good effect ;D ;D ;D be a more effective leader ;D ;D ;D ;D
Thank you, so much, Zoe

hi peeps, i don't know who of you know's about my journey with my Tod, but i think it is pretty safe to say, the last time i actually took Tod out he hmmmm tried to kill me he had slowly been getting worse, for a while and no matter what i did somehow wasn't working, anyway, i have been doing ground work right from the beginning and as from today, he now backs up when i walk towards him, without me even saying anything if i walk towards his back end from the side, he moves away, i can touch him all over, even his mouth, without him biting me and long - reigning, he is just the best, today even my girls took him for a walk down the garden (one of which is only 9) obviously i was there with her, but she had the reins, and he was a total star, on the long - reigning i can do circles, and change direction without stopping him, we can do figure 8's, and straight lines, stopping on command, and today for the first time reigning back, all in walk, which as you know is his worst possible thing ever, we don't do walk, (well hey, we do now) he is extremly chilled while we work, with his head level, not down or up just sort of level and is chewing most of the time, his ears are focused on me (which ever side i'm standing) we also can do just one step at a time, slow and fast walk so i think all things considered we are progressing ok, ;D karen and co
