Shanti's 1st show - little superstar (lots of pics

Well Shanti was an absolute superstar today ;D

Pouring with rain this morning and was thinking that the day would probably just get worse But got Shanti in from the field and she had kept herself remarkably clean and all plaits were still in although they were so loose i ended up doing them all again anyway

Anyway, the lorry (very posh lorry) i hired came to pick her up and she went straight on. We (Auburnalia (lou) and myself) drove separately. The lorry had to go to another yard to pick up lots of other ponies and apparently one of them wouldn't be caught so shanti had to come back off the lorry, was put in a stable for an hour and then loaded again and she was brilliant bless her.


Anyhoo (sorry for that) entered the WHP but then saw size of jumps and decided against it as don't want to over face her especially not at her first show. So there was actually no point in plaiting as had to take them out for the M& M anyway, but at least she looked the part. So did some clear round jumping in the morning which she was actually very good in and jumped better than she does at home. I did fall off well sort of slid off and landed on feet when she did a nasty stop at the planks but it was the first time she'd seen planks today and she jumped it fine the next time. Other than the planks she jumped clear

there was a huge (and at times very cold - sorry Lou ) wait until my next class the Mountain & Moorland but was well worth it as she was absolutely brilliant and we came 2nd ;D

So she has her very first rosette and i got a medal

She loaded straight away on the way home again and walked off at home like she'd been going to shows for years. She really was a complete chilled cucumber all day and i can't fault her - just wish i could stretch her another hand or so - but beggers and all that

Thanks guys, well we're meant to be doing some pairs cross-country on the 14th May which will be interesting. She does have a brilliant jump but she just flicks her back legs up so high and there's nothing in front to catch me :-)

Thankyou Jen although really like the look of the pretty ponies/showing selection type tweeds with the velvet collars (must not buy one at Badminton next weekend must leave all credit cards at home..... but it never happens).

Well done Amelia and specially well done to Shanti for remaining calm during the hic up going to the show. A lot of ponies would have lost their cool having to interupt a journey going into a stable on a strange yard,when such a novice.
Your plaits looked very neat----shame they were wasted

Yep hope to show the foal but it's going to be quite a late foal so we will be at a disadvantage. But it doesn't really matter i just want to get the baby used to going out and about at an early age so it's like second nature to him/her when they're 4/5 yrs and i want to start doing some ridden showing.

Think i'm going to work hard now on improving shanti's jumping technique (which is pretty good already she just needs more confidence) and then i'll find a smaller jockey to do WHP with her.

I agree - she's so chilled out! Nice jumper, too. I like the last jumping one, where her ears are pricked and she looks like she's spotted something interesting!
